University of Alabama Denny Chimes Denny Chimes at the University of Alabama Wikimedia Commons TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The University of Alabama board of trustees voted Friday to give back a $26.5 million donation to a top donor who recently called on students to boycott the school over the state's new abortion ban.

Hugh F. Culverhouse Jr., a 70-year-old real estate investor and lawyer, has already given $21.5 million to the university after his pledge last September with the rest still to come. But in a news release last week, he urged students to participate in a boycott of the school.

The business school is named after this guy, or his dad, I think.

If you give with strings attached, you are not giving. Time to change the name of the Business School

Good for that University. If the 26.Million dollar donor thinks his donation allows him to encourage student disruption and boycotts, then give him all his money back.
That’s what being noble and honorable really looks like!
You don’t often hear of Universities rejecting a donation that huge.
I hope they have enough funding to keep going without it.

How pathetic...gives a huge donation to the school, then thinks that gives him the right to preach to the students about abortion. Good for the school!!

Nice stand, even though it does seem to be based at least in part on his disagreements with the way his donations were being spent.

That seems to be reasoned to an extent, but the university is doing the right thing concerning his latest antics.

You can’t always dictate how your money is spent when you donate it. I suppose the school could be a part of the problem here, but returning the money certainly ends that problem.

Taking the family name off the building... love it.

It’s about time a Leftist has to pay some price for popping off. I believe in free speech, but the university has it’s rights too. They’re exercising them. Nice...

I have read stories about what abortion docs do to these babies. Beastly.

If I was University of Alabama, I would have not given the money back, and instead, I would have donated the money to right to life organizations.

Depending on when they send it back, it’s really going to mess with his taxes and book-keeping. He’ll end up pay a larger state and federal taxing fee(’cause he can’t claim the donation as a gift) for 2019. Amended taxes, more head-aches for his book keeper.
