U.S.-Mexico Joint Declaration
US Department of State ^ | June 7, 2019 | Office of the Spokesperson

Posted on 06/07/2019 7:53:56 PM PDT by Brown Deer

The United States and Mexico met this week to address the shared challenges of irregular migration, to include the entry of migrants into the United States in violation of U.S. law. Given the dramatic increase in migrants moving from Central America through Mexico to the United States, both countries recognize the vital importance of rapidly resolving the humanitarian emergency and security situation. The Governments of the United States and Mexico will work together to immediately implement a durable solution.

As a result of these discussions, the United States and Mexico commit to:

Mexican Enforcement Surge

Mexico will take unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb irregular migration, to include the deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border. Mexico is also taking decisive action to dismantle human smuggling and trafficking organizations as well as their illicit financial and transportation networks. Additionally, the United States and Mexico commit to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including information sharing and coordinated actions to better protect and secure our common border.

Migrant Protection Protocols

The United States will immediately expand the implementation of the existing Migrant Protection Protocols across its entire Southern Border. This means that those crossing the U.S. Southern Border to seek asylum will be rapidly returned to Mexico where they may await the adjudication of their asylum claims.

In response, Mexico will authorize the entrance of all of those individuals for humanitarian reasons, in compliance with its international obligations, while they await the adjudication of their asylum claims. Mexico will also offer jobs, healthcare and education according to its principles.

The United States commits to work to accelerate the adjudication of asylum claims and to conclude removal proceedings as expeditiously as possible.

Further Actions

Both parties also agree that, in the event the measures adopted do not have the expected results, they will take further actions. Therefore, the United States and Mexico will continue their discussions on the terms of additional understandings to address irregular migrant flows and asylum issues, to be completed and announced within 90 days, if necessary.

Ongoing Regional Strategy

The United States and Mexico reiterate their previous statement of December 18, 2018, that both countries recognize the strong links between promoting development and economic growth in southern Mexico and the success of promoting prosperity, good governance and security in Central America. The United States and Mexico welcome the Comprehensive Development Plan launched by the Government of Mexico in concert with the Governments of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to promote these goals. The United States and Mexico will lead in working with regional and international partners to build a more prosperous and secure Central America to address the underlying causes of migration, so that citizens of the region can build better lives for themselves and their families at home.

Tariffs are probably one of the least damaging things government does to screw up the economy. I am MUCH MORE vehemently against all the other stuff I listed that the federal government does to mess up our economy, lower our standard of living, and lessen the wealth of individuals.

Having said that, however, I want people to realize that tariffs are a tax. Tariffs are not the end-all, be-all so many, even here on FR, think they are. I am against taxes because taxes take away the wealth of individuals and depress the economy while enlarging an already bloated $4 trillion 80%+ unconstitutional federal government.

Tariffs don’t correct ANYTHING that I listed that are the core issues of our economic weaknesses and individuals not realizing their full economic potential. The federal government IS the problem, not the solution. And ONE of the problems with tariffs is it fools people into thinking it’s fixing something when it isn’t. Our competitive edge remains dull, and will not be sharpened by tariffs (which actually makes that edge even more dull) but by getting the freaking government off our backs and out of our lives.

OF COURSE the solution is throw the bums out. But sometime or sooner, we MUST DISMANTLE the $3+ trillion 80%+ unconstitutional portion of the feds if we are to recover and restore our Free Constitutional Republic and launch our great freedom into a wealth-producing free market economy that is second to none.

You are repeating the same arguments that I already refuted at #121. Try to argue from there if you can.

You have to believe everyone else is ignorant to still proclaim “Tariffs don’t correct ANYTHING” when we all follow news coming out of China.

“Tariffs are not the end-all, be-all”

Don’t make things up. Nobody ever said that tariffs are the end-all, be-all, not even the President.

Apparently the situation with China does not fit any of the claims you made about tariffs, that’s why you can never get down to the details to prove your points when there have been plenty opportunities for you to do so.

Even now, by calling tariff a tax and saying you oppose it because it is a tax provides just the easy way out for you, though I can see you put in a lot of effort talking about how the government should be reformed when all of that have no immediate relevance to what we are confronting. Your post actually reads more like one big distraction to hide the fact that someone is very upset about the beating China is taking because of the tariffs.

Maybe you don’t see China as a threat, maybe you support the CCP, maybe you’re a so-called 5-cent; not saying you do/are, we just don’t know. So, I shouldn’t have assumed you want what most of us here want. Bye.

OK.

From your post #121...

I said, “Consumers from the country imposing the tariffs suffer either by settling for inferior quality or artificially higher prices. In doing so, tariffs tend to lower the standard of living of the tariff-imposing country.”

Your answer seems to be saying that the standard of living is a cause not an effect. But standard of living is a result of the buying power of the consumer as well as the OEM. Prices are an important determination of a country’s standard of living. Tariffs ARE a government tax that artificially RAISES prices, so tariffs LOWER the standard of living. You’re the one who has it bassackwards and your answer is not a refutation but confusion.

Then you say China has nowhere else to go but here. Well China can do whatever they want. They can develop new markets elsewhere, make cheaper inferior goods to make up for the price hike, etc. And all of that misses the point. The point isn’t what China does. It’s that tariffs do NOTHING to attack the root causes of OUR economic problems, which as I said, is not China, Mexico, or the Man in the Moon, - the problem is U.S. Federal Government.

Next you rail against using “importing country”, but to us, China’s goods are IMPORTS. not exports. More confusion on your part and certainly not a refutation.

The rest is just you arguing off the top of your head and not attacking the rationale behind what I’m saying about tariffs being harmful and palliative, not curative.

As far as post #142, you’re starting to do what many here do, confuse the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers in the free market economy with national political sovereignty. Two entirely different things. In the free market economy, your competitors may seem like a “threat” in a particular area or product type, but it is up to you to either out-compete them, or find another area where you can win WITHOUT government interference.

Come back when you have actual rational answers that deal directly with my rationale, instead of just more assertions.

Gee, glad I grow my own raspberries. In fact anything that I need that comes from Mexico I will grow, hunt, fish or do without. Except for sombreros. Hopefully they don’t go up in price, what would I do?

Interesting how crime and gangs, like locust, depopulate an area after they consume what is valuable and then move on to the next target. Sort of like Democrat voters and the policies they support.
