17 states have now passed legislation protecting free speech on college campuses. Eight of them have passed just this year. Such bills obliterate speech zones which limit free speech to certain areas of campus only, obliterate speech codes, protect freedom of association, bar viewpoint discrimination, and prohibit universities from considering anticipated controversy to determine approval or fees for any speaker on campus.
The states to pass such legislation are: Iowa, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, South Dakota, Louisiana, Arizona, California, Colorado, Missouri, Utah, Kentucky, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma. South Carolina and Mississippi are the only Southern states that have not passed such legislation yet.
11 more states have introduced campus free speech bills. Ohio, South Carolina, Michigan, Kansas, North Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Maine, New Hampshire,

Looks very promising on the surface. I don’t know any details, but I am skeptical of the value of any legislation passed by California and New York until I know more about what they have done.
How soon before some Bowel Movement freak labels these states the “Confederacy”?
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.............
We need to protect our Constitution period!
that passed california? Guess no enforcement of it
Honestly, why does anyone listen to these little twits. They’re too young to know how the world works. Heck, they don’t even know what gender they are.
It would be interesting to have a California University invite someone to speak on the topic of “Psychiatric Cures for Homosexuality”.
I have a hard time thinking this would be allowed. in the Golden State.

The same California where the Santa Clara Student Government refused to allow YAF to form a chapter on campus? That California?
Free speech on campus heading towards a 180° shift from the free speech movement of the 1960’s?
...or what bathroom to use............
But California ??? Are we waiting for a punch line?
They need to give the Dems some of their own medicine and pass a law preventing discrimination based on Party affiliation.
This is truly wonderful, assuming it will be enforced against leftie fascism. Shocked that California passed this type of bill.
It’s a start I guess, but the left is really good at ignoring laws and rules. Who is going to enforce the new law, the heads of LGBTQ Studies department?
Santa Clara is a private university but I have no
idea if they receive any government funds or if
the new law applies regardless.
This wont matter much if the people with the power on campus work to circumvent these laws. Its better than nothing though and sends the right message about freedom.
