Now that’s a hoax I like.
While on trial lock up the parents. Send the kids to foster homes. Confiscate their homes, vehicles. ...keep them in solitaire, with a occasional visit from Bubba or Bubbette. Lol. This could be fun.

Actually, thinking about it more, it should be an eye-for-an-eye thing.

Instead of announcing that it was a hoax, continue thru the motions of capitol punishment. Handcuff them, take them away to death row.

It’s up to them to prove it was a hoax. On their dime.
