Jimmy Fallon says the wide field of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates offers "a breath of fresh air" for late-night TV hosts looking for new material.
I want my show at the end of a long day to be a wind-down,” the host of “The Tonight Show” says in an interview with Variety published Monday.
“We talk about everything that’s in the news. Right now, all it is is Trump — that’s just the way it is,” says Fallon in a conversation with Hasan Minhaj, host of Netflix's “Patriot Act.” “Now we’re getting into the [2020 Democratic presidential field] and it’s a breath of fresh air,” Fallon said. “We get to talk about them now. I’ll take any funny joke, if it’s about politics or not. I won’t shy away from anything.”
Fallon — who famously caught flak for playfully tousling Donald Trump’s hair during the then-GOP White House hopeful’s 2016 appearance on his show — said it’s “easy to get depressed” by the daily news headlines.
“I stopped looking at anything on the internet. I just read papers, and then I thought, ‘I can’t even read the papers anymore,’” Fallon, 44, told Minhaj.

As I recall, the 8 years of Obama were a bit of a drought for late night comedy. The man was so serious. He was so excellent. There was just ... just nothing you could laugh at with Obama.

I don’t give a dang about late night ‘comedy’ shows that are stuffed with politicians. I got out of the habit of watching late night tv when I went into the Army and haven’t seen a reason to return to watching it during the 25 years since I retired.
Because they are comedy gold!
Just think of all the fun Fallon and the other would be having right now if Bernie, Biden, AOC, Fauxahantus, and Irish Bob O’Rourke were Republicans.

We’ve noticed that Fallon has been going after the dems pretty good recently, and his Trump jokes are actually softer and funnier than the hate filled stuff you hear on other shows. The kind of jokes that used to be common about Bush, Clinton, Gore etc. Not too partisan.
Just remember, it’s not Jimmy Fallon’s decision to do, or not do , these things.
It is the producers who tell the writers what to compose, that Jimmy reads. The reason they are backing off Trump and will go after the Dems is...... money.
