A starving polar bear has strayed hundreds of kilometres from its natural Arctic habitat and wandered, exhausted, into the major Russian industrial city of Norilsk in northern Siberia.
The female bear, visibly weak and seemingly ill, lay despondently on the ground for hours on Tuesday in Norilsks suburbs, its feet caked in mud, occasionally rising to sniff around for food.
It is the first polar bear seen in the city in more than 40 years, according to local environmentalists.
She is still moving around a factory, under observation by police and the emergency services, who are ensuring her safety and those of residents, environmental services official Alexander Korobkin told AFP.
The bear was first spotted on Sunday evening in an industrial area north-east of central Norilsk, Korobkin said.
A team of specialists are set to arrive Wednesday to inspect the animal and decide its fate.

I’d suggest sacrificing a couple of Global Warmunistas, for the children.

Id suggest sacrificing a couple of Global Warmunistas, for the children.Agreed.
And when the polar bear is well enough to walk home, cash in the carbon credits saved by not flying!
...Profit!

Poor bear. Too bad they can’t tranquilize him, take him to a zoo, nourish him back to health, treat him until it gets better, then perhaps release him.

Why don’t these idiots feed the poor thing? And when she’s healthy, take her back to the wild.

Yeah.
Feed and hydrate the poor thing. Doesn’t he deserve it after walking so far?
Have a heart.

Alka Seltzer. For those times you eat an environmentalist that's still too green.

As the polar bear populations continue to expand, they are bound to wander further afield and come into more contact with humans.

Skin it and use the hair to make crappie jigs!
Old guys remember when you could still get polar bear hair for tying flies and jigs. NOTHING works as great for crappie jigs because the hair is translucent and sparkles like a prism full of lights.

Polar bears are black and just ‘appear’ to be white because their translucent fur refracts the light. Their black hide absorbs the heat from the sun light.

My grandfather used to tie his own hooks. I saw some scaple of stiff white hair and thought it was cow hair. Was told it was polar bear but still thought it was cow. Used to sell them they were so good. I have one he made over fifty years ago. I miss my grandfather!
