Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that the state's employers added 2,600 jobs in May, pushing the total to 4.59 million jobs. That number is up more than 69,000 from the same time last year.

Georgia had four job sectors that added more than 10,000 jobs over the past year:

Education/health services, 17,700 Professional/business services, 16,400 Leisure/hospitality, 13,400 Construction, 11,100. "We are continuing to see Georgia grow jobs and overall we're still seeing fewer layoffs year over year," Butler said in a statement.

"I think it's been a pretty impressive pace of job creation over the last several years, and even this year we're doing pretty well," Butler said. The state's EmployGeorgia.com web site had a record number of postings in May, settling at about 93,000.

"We have a lot of jobs out there, we just need to start filling those jobs at a little faster pace," Butler said.

Georgia’s unemployment rate remained at 3.8 percent. A year ago, Georgia’s unemployment rate

sat at 4 percent.

Now is the time to see the kinks in our HR system. HR seems to be driven by lawyers and fears of lawsuits. So they follow a rigid form where they check off the boxes.

There are applicants who have interviewed with the hiring manager and the manager has told HR that they are wanted. But these applicants don't fit the check off boxes. HR cannot check off the box so the applicant is not hired.

HR needs to fix its practices.

Also, the legislature and congress need to fix the ambulance chasers. Texas shifted from 2nd gear to 4th gear when it cleaned up civil suit law. Mississippi is at the bottom because it has the worst lawsuit climate. Its Republican party is controlled by those lawyers. Georgia needs to learn from Texas and Mississippi and fix its major employment problem.

GA continues to be one of the top 5 states in the nation to attract businesses.

Construction is hot.
Industrials could be better and it didn’t help that the Valmiera Plant in Dublin closed this past week. 350 folks out of work! That was a huge investment.

I’m sure they’ll all just go back to California and pay quadruple what they are paying in GA. /s

With a few notable exceptions (the HR guy where I work wears a number of hats), HR people are the most shiftless people in the company: among the last to arrive and the first to leave during the day, drunk with power and an inflated sense of self worth, see themselves as tools of the nanny state and not service providers to the workers unless those workers are complaining about things which serve the nanny state.

One of the best things about the tightening labor market is that they now have to do actual work rather than run the resumes they receive through a robot algorithm which trash cans those not containing certain key words which the HR people keep as a closely guarded secret.
