My 72+ years of life shepherd me to believe that you most likely are correct .... that 'The Deep State' will prevail and hardly be cleansed.

I don’t see a problem with expecting the worst but hoping for the best.
Personally, I see McCabe and James Baker as definitely doing time, and at the most, Comey or Brennan both of whom have openly lied, but that is it. I don’t see Hillary or Obama even being touched.
I’m damn near certain that he was, as it would make perfect sense considering all else that we know happened involving the Dems colluding with Russia while, at the same time, planting evidence to make it APPEAR as if Trump was.
Again, nobody wanted to work for Trump at that time. There doesn’t have to be a grand conspiracy. Manafort was a washed up 3rd tier political consultant when Trump hired him. His career was over. No doubt the KGB could do better if they had wanted an asset to go after Trump.

None of the big shots will serve time. The best we can hope for is that verdicts are handed down with enough solemnity that they can not be “laughed off”.
For example, Richard Nixon never served jail time, but the public heard the guilty verdict, loud and clear. On the other hand, Bill Clinton was found guilty, but basically laughed it off.
That’s what I don’t want to happen here - I never expected them to go to prison - but I do hope they will at least be properly shamed, and that the public doesn’t allow them to laugh it off.

President Trump should receive briefings at significant junctures in the case, perhaps, but to involve the presidency too closely politicizes the case in a way that diminishes its legitimacy...

He loves his institutions, and wants to clean house on the down low, minimize scandal, pick a fall guy or two, and persuade us hicks to believe in them again.

As others have opined, I am convinced he was a brokered compromise between the Trump Camp and the Deep State/UniParty during/following the GHWB funeral.
To ignore his known actions and beliefs while in past Federal service is to wilfully engage in cognitive dissonance.
