“Invasion of the Body Snatchers”
Probably the best of the 50’s SciFi era was “anti communist’
Bkmk on movies
Yeah, in Red Dawn they had some hokey’d up weapons: M-60 machine gun as a Dashika, French cargo helicopter as an Mi-24, T-72 mockups that wore different paint schemes and seen only two at a time, RPG’s with their plastic rockets, etc.
At least the imported Mahdi AKM was available for authentic looking AK-47’s.
The chassis for those mockups, IIRC came from U.S. tracked ammo carriers; the studio said FBI followed them around wondering how they got their hands on T-72’s.
But the Russian dialogue was painfully accurate & intended to anger any Soviets who saw the film.
That’s this movie.
The Peter Weir film The Way Back inspired by this book.
No. The author states that it can only be OUR anti-communism, not someone else’s. Then the little fascist moves the goal post from ‘Hollywood won’t produce’ to ‘must have won an Academy award.’
Screw this self-aggrandizing nitwit and the prose he rode in on.
Two Russian films (Believe it or not!)
The Chekist
1992 film about a true believing Communist Chekist officer. Who goes slowly mad when he starts realizing none of the people he is ordering killed are guilty of anything. Very dark & psychological in the Russian Dostoevsky style.
Admiral
The White Russian leader Admiral Kolchak portrayed as a tragic hero. A Russian film putting a White anti-communist leader in a positive light. Amazing!
Another great film that is foreign, made in Romania with subtitles about the overthrow of Couseceau- “Chuck Norris vs Communism”. I highly recommend it if you have not seen it.
I saw that film years ago. Thought it was pretty good.
The Duke and Audie Murphy both starred in anti-Commie flicks back in the 50s.
Unfortunately, The 1960s made the film industry safe for Marxists.
WOW!
Awesome list!
Thanks for posting, Kas!
I’ll bookmark & see as many as possible.
Looks like most were made during the Cold War.
Not sure why FReepers insist on nitpicking about films not on list, when so many good ones are.
That scene where Powers Boothe explains how the invasion unfolded is more chilling today than it was in the 1980s, given what we've seen from our southern border down to Panama in recent years.
But dont watch the recent revival, which threw everything out the window to become a vehicle to attack President Trump.
Then there is the 1938 "comedy" YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, that is anti-capitalism, anti-wealthy people, pro-Communism, and has a "DO YOUR OWN THING" theme that it revolting !
There are many such films, which are now seen as "classics", but with disgusting hidden and not so hidden PRO-COMMIE themes and many of them are really quite old.
Good one, but the later remakes ( were there 2 or 3 of those? ) all really stunk on ice and you never get the “anti-Commie” stuff.
Yeah, invading Mexicans & Nicaraguans led by a Cuban colonel is a chilling thought nowadays.
But not even the Russians had a sense of grievance & entitlement such as the “caravans” do.
Bump
Everyone involved with that movie was blacklisted, and Jack Warner disowned it and made the anti-commie Miracle of Lady of Fatima in atonement.
John Wayne’s “The Green Berets”
Probably more a Vietnam pic but it had it anti communist message.
The seventie remake wasn’t bad but, you’re right, by then it had lost much of it’s anti communist punch.
Haven’t seen the third.
