Former Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) offered some praise for President Trump, saying hes energized a base of Republican voters who didnt previously participate in politics.
What I think people get excited about is he's not taking any crap, Ryan said Sunday in a wide-ranging interview with PBS NewsHours Judy Woodruff. I mean, hes taking on political correctness, hes taking fights that a lot of people want to see fought. The forgotten man that he speaks to is a person that finally feels like theyre being taken seriously, theyre being paid attention to. And hes concerned about their issues.
Ryan, who has not been Trumps most ardent or consistent supporter, said the president's base is now "the guttural core of the Republican party.
What that base Republican voter sees is this guy is not backing down and hes fighting for me, Ryan said.
If Trump is elected for a second term, Ryan said Trumps base will likely remain the core of the party going forward.
He also told Woodruff he learned its far more effective to not publicly criticize the president, according to the Washington Post.
Youll have far more success on things keeping it private than having a public spat, he said.
Ryan didnt, however, offer an opinion on whether Trump is offering a good example for the next generation. In response to Woodruff's question, he simply took a sip of water and laughed.
He didn't seem that intent in joining in Trumps' fights.
Guttural: Of or relating to the throat.
Having a harsh grating quality, as certain sounds produced in the back of the mouth.
He’s on the outside, looking in, and has to improve access.
Would have been nice if he had expressed such thoughts, when he was in a position to help Trump achieve success.
he’s not taking any crap,
Not from you either, Dwerp....
Alright Paul. Out with it.
What is it that you want from Trump?
An Ambassadorship maybe, an endorsement for your book?
Why all the sudden apple-polishing?
We haven’t forgotten your years of snide, unhelpful remarks.
You’re right Paul. Now shut up. You’re irrelevant and no one cares that you’re now trying to suck up to President Trump.
I think he meant “visceral”.
Anyway, he’s too late to the party.
And where were you Pauley when Trump was putting on his boxing gloves in 2016??
Oh, that’s right, you were lacing up the ones on all of his opponents.
Go away swamp scum
The more Trump fights for America & Americans, the harder he pushes against the interests of the 5th column corporations that have been selling them out... AND the more those corporations will pay whores like Ryan to sabotage Trump's efforts.
It’s a tragedy Ryan didn’t understand that when he was a congressman. The Democrats never would have taken the House. As Speaker he seemed a little lame to me, especially in his last year.
After the divestiture, Paul Ryan was appointed to a seat on the board of Fox Corporation, which includes Fox News, Sports, and Broadcasting.
I don’t think he’s got another job. At least he didn’t just hightail it over to K street and start pimping like so many others have done.
I am of two minds on Paul. Seriously.
He, by the very fact of his youth, was not as embedded in the establishment as his running mate Mitt...I think he had more conservative “heart” in his bones than he exhibited.
On the other hand, he wanted to “get along”...a bit too much.
kind of wish Tom DeLay were still around.
The guy had complete GOP control over the House and promptly pissed it all away.
All the things he had talked about. Remember, he used to be a conservative prodigy and had all these wonderful ideas.
Isn't this what the other traitor (Brutus) said just before he stabbed Caesar in the back?
Well....Maybe I'm just being "guttural"...
A lot of what Ryan worked so long for was in the tax bill.
Paul Ryan recently turned down a job offer for a high-ranking position with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He knows which way the wind is blowing.
Right. Took him four years to figure this out?
Boehner was worse, mainly because of all those embarrassing crying jags he sank into, live on the air. It was both baffling and alarming.
Boehner needed a good psychiatrist to prescribe something that would keep him from tearing up at the drop of a phrase or a hat.
