If Trump wins a second term in 2020, the GOP has a big problem looming in 2026. If whomever they elect in 2024 go back to the McCain-Ryan-Graham-McConnell style of governing of a decade and more earlier (1986–2016), they’re looking at a big defeat at the national level on a magnitude of Trump’s win. People expect fighters and, right now, Trump is the only Republican who fights as hard as Democrats routinely do.

Trump has given the Party a miraculous second chance. If the GOP doesn’t seize it to learn how to work and fight together as a party, they could be marginalized to ineffectiveness at the national level. But that hinges on Trump winning in 2020. If he loses, they could see big losses in 2022 (even though they should expect off-year gains) if they can’t coalesce as an effective opposition party.

Another connotation for guttural might be “raspy”, as in “he grates on people”. Not only would that be a malaprop, but untrue. DJT never hits first; but he always hits back, going for the groin. If people are rubbed raw because a guy hits back, they are stationed in the wrong galaxy.

Denny Hastert, also, since he was a child molester. In terms of being an embarrassment, they were worse than Ryan. I dislike Ryan because we had all three branches of government, and he swamped it up. He did everything he could to throw the midterms. Ryan caused more damage than the other two (except what Hastert did to his victims.)

Paul Ryan is a worm. The Republicans controlled the House under Ryan and could have put together a bill for funding of a border wall that could have passed the Senate and gone to Trump for signing. The reason we don’t have a border wall is Paul Ryan and other Republicans like him.
