As I have been saying for years. they want to ban “something” then use that ban to ban other things.
First, in 1934, the taxed and registered machine guns, sawed off shotguns, and silencers.
Then in 1986, the BANNED new machine gun ownership.
Now they are moving in on silencers.

Same for common legal firearms today.
In 1962 they ONLY wanted to register handguns, later all guns.
Then a ban on foreign made small handguns, soon tried to ban American made handguns, then went after rifles, something they said they would NEVER do.

Nelson “Pete” Shields, founder of Handgun Control Inc (now the Brady Center) spelled out how he would do it in a NEW YORKER article in 1976. One little step at a time.
The have never deviated from this except to add rifles to their wish list of guns to be banned.

Nelson T. ‘Pete’ Shields
Founder of Handgun Control, Inc.

“I’m convinced that we have to have federal legislation to build on. We’re going to have to take one step at a time, and the first step is necessarily — given the political realities — going to be very modest.

Of course, it’s true that politicians will then go home and say, ‘This is a great law. The problem is solved.’ And it’s also true that such statements will tend to defuse the gun-control issue for a time.

So then we’ll have to strengthen that law, and then again to strengthen that law, and maybe again and again. Right now, though, we’d be satisfied not with half a loaf but with a slice. Our ultimate goal — total control of handguns in the United States — is going to take time.

My estimate is from seven to ten years. The problem is to slow down the increasing number of handguns sold in this country. The second problem is to get them all registered. And the final problem is to make the possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition — except for the military, policemen, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors — TOTALLY ILLEGAL.”

-Pete Shields, Chairman and founder, Handgun Control Inc., “A Reporter At Large: Handguns,” The New Yorker, July 26, 1976, 57-58

“Yes, I’m for an outright ban [on handguns].”

-Pete Shields, Chairman emeritus, Handgun Control, Inc., 60 Minutes interview

HCI, around 1984, came out in favor of a ban on semi-auto rifles and shotguns.

**So why aren’t they demanding that other weapons be made louder?**

Yet, back in the 1990s, Bill Clinton “banned” a-s-s-s-ault rifles by banning “flash suppressors” which actually make the BANG louder.

Go figure. Got to ban something, then build on that ban to ban other things.

Take the muffler off your car in protest.

Mufflers work way, way better than suppressors. Someone needs to do a demo on congress floor, movie version vs reality. Maybe they would get it, maybe not.

The floor of the House is no place for reality to intrude.

If suppressors are banned criminals will make their own, it’s not difficult.

I bought several Advanced Armaments back in 2001 & 2002, at $1,200-1,300 each. My FFL makes his own line, at a significantly less price.

All Democrats want to do is ban things (except recreational drugs). Why not ban Democrats instead?

If they cannot prevent us from defending ourselves, our loved ones, our neighbors, and our country ... they will punish us for doing so by ensuring we spend our later years hard-of-hearing ... which is no treat for any elderly person.

“We were reminded how dangerous silencers can be a few weeks ago when a gunman used a .45 caliber handgun fitted with a suppressor to kill 12 Americans in Virginia Beach. What first sounded like a nail-gun ended up being gunfire,” Menendez said in a statement.

Flat out lie. I've fired suppressed and unsuppressed .45 hanguns and neither sounds remotely like a nailgun. That's ridiculous. Menendez has clearly never pulled a trigger, or is a pathological liar.

Awfully convenient (for them) that after decades of suppressors having never been used in a crime, that in just a few months, you have two separate occasions of it.

Silencers could probably be more easily fabricated with 3D printers than a fire arm.

Nailguns being so quiet and all.

Yes, nailguns are incredibly quiet! There's a house getting a new roof in the next neighborhood over (about a half mile from where I live), and I can just barely hear them!

;^)
