False allegations of rape are believed to be more common than many persons realize. These are the findings of four research studies:
A review of 556 rape accusations filed against Air Force personnel found that 27% of women later recanted. Then 25 criteria were developed based on the profile of those women, and then submitted to three independent reviewers to review the remaining cases. If all three reviewers deemed the allegation was false, it was categorized as false. As a result, 60% of all allegations were found to be false.1 Of those women who later recanted, many didn't admit the allegation was false until just before taking a polygraph test. Others admitted it was false only after having failed a polygraph test.2 In a nine-year study of 109 rapes reported to the police in a Midwestern city, Purdue sociologist Eugene J. Kanin reported that in 41% of the cases the complainants eventually admitted that no rape had occurred.3 In a follow-up study of rape claims filed over a three-year period at two large Midwestern universities, Kanin found that of 64 rape cases, 50% turned out to be false.4 Among the false charges, 53% of the women admitted they filed the false claim as an alibi.5 According to a 1996 Department of Justice report, “in about 25% of the sexual assault cases referred to the FBI, ... the primary suspect has been excluded by forensic DNA testing.6 It should be noted that rape involves a forcible and non-consensual act, and a DNA match alone does not prove that rape occurred. So the 25% figure substantially underestimates the true extent of false allegations. And according to former Colorado prosecutor Craig Silverman, “For 16 years, I was a kick-ass prosecutor who made most of my reputation vigorously prosecuting rapists. ... I was amazed to see all the false rape allegations that were made to the Denver Police Department. ... A command officer in the Denver Police sex assaults unit recently told me he placed the false rape numbers at approximately 45%.”7
According to the FBI, about 95,000 forcible rapes were reported in 2004.8 Based on the statements and studies cited above, some 47,000 American men are falsely accused of rape each year. These men are disproportionately African-American.9
Some of these men are wrongly convicted, sentenced, and imprisoned. Even if there is no conviction, a false allegation of rape can “emotionally, socially, and economically destroy a person.”10

Yes. False accusers must pay double the penalty that the innocent man would have paid. If he loses his job, she must go to jail for life.
I think you need actual physical evidence and an official police report filed within 1 week of the crime. Or else forget about it. Go away. Don’t waste our time.
Both men and women need to adopt better behavior patterns so that unpleasant “incidents” cannot easily occur.
And people who try to initiate lawsuits based on events from 20 years ago should be sued into bankruptcy.
A false rape accuser should serve the full sentence for the rape. As they intended to publicly “rape” the accused

Completely agree. Any time a “protected class” of alleged victims is created, they are handed a potent weapon that can be used in a multitude of ways. If they misuse their presumed victimhood to falsely accuse others, they should pay a very heavy price.
I have personally witnessed several workplace claims of racial discrimination over the years. In each case I knew the parties involved, on both sides, very well. In every single instance, the claim was 100% bogus and was leveled because the person making the accusation had gotten themselves into some kind of trouble and reflexively reached for the race card to deflect attention from their own behavior. Even more disappointing was the fact that in a couple of instances the plaintiffs were otherwise very respectable people who I (until then) held in high regard, yet even they couldn’t resist the temptation to use the advantage they had been granted by political correctness.
For this same reason, it is pure fantasy to believe that any group of people granted “protected class” status will ever concede that any “discrimination” against them, real or imagined, has improved one iota. No “victim” is ever going to let go of their victimhood, no matter what anyone else does to try to be responsive to their “concerns.” To do so would be to give up power, and in today’s upside-down leftist PC world, victimhood is the ultimate form of power.

The penalty for a false accusation could be so harsh that some with a legitimate accusation wouldn’t levy it due to fear of the penalty if they were accused of a false accusation.
Something needs to be done about false accusations, care is necessary to avoid unintended consequences.
Keep that in mind when the accused is part of a group of which you might disapprove.
False accusations are the weapon of choice for women. No concealed carry permit is required, no training, no expense, and you become a minor celebrity.
Unfortunately, a large number of accusations are true and those victims are often ignored because of the many liars.

If some woman tried to end Bernie’s presidential run by suddenly “remembering” how he raped her back in 1994, I would absolutely side with Bernie and I would want to see that woman punished severely. I would have no interest in any of her “evidence”. Too much time has gone by. I don’t care.

Women are human, so they lie, too. Time to change the standards - without reporting the incident within, say, a week (if medically fit to do so), then no charges or suits can be brought. That will stop the election year and confirmation nonsense.
Some people are perfectly happy to believe ANY accusation, however absurd, if it is leveled against a person who is part of a disfavored group. The disfavor could be racial, religious, political, cultural, etc.
If you’re willing to give everybody a fair shake, good for you. Others should follow your example.
It’s not so much as them being from 20 years ago as there being no evidence whatsoever to support the claims, reducing everything to he-said, she-said, still leaving the accused in a no-win position.
If there’s real evidence... say, as in the Juanita Broderick case, then 20 years’ passage is not necessarily a disqualifier.
