The Trump administration just issued a draft rule that would prevent illegal immigrants from claiming federal housing subsidies. The reform will help ensure that taxpayer dollars only go to needy American families.
Though welcome and much needed, the rule doesnt address the root of the problem the widespread lack of affordable housing in this country. More than 10 million Americans depend on federal welfare programs to pay rent. Tens of millions more qualify for such assistance but dont receive any help due to programs budget constraints.
Americas immigration laws deserve part of the blame for this sorry state of affairs. Today, 45 million immigrants reside in the United States. Over the coming half-century, immigration will account for nearly 90% of U.S. population growth, according to Pew Research.
This year, the federal government will let in 1 million legal immigrants and hundreds of thousands of temporary guest workers. If current trends hold, another 1 million foreigners will illegally immigrate to our country. And thats just in 2019.

Will never happen. I agree with the sentiment, as this would help Americans get off the streets and have housing and better jobs. Maybe a four-year moratorium, just to piss off Democrat leftists.

In the article it refers to middle class people not suffering as much as working class people from high rents. I always thought middle class are working class.
What is the difference?
Maybe they think it will be lost in the Andy Ngo and Fourth of July reporting.
Perfect!
You got it right.
I don’t really agree with this.
On one hand it sounds plausible that the many immigrants need places to stay and that creates a strong demand.
But the demands are usually met fairly quickly by building more apt buildings, etc.
I think that because of the many rules and regulations it is becoming harder to build, so the supply cannot increase to meet the demand.
what is significant is that a far far far far far leftist commie type paper has published this
I don’t know if Californians will ever wake up.
Too little too late. The media is part of the problem..
If Kamala wins the nomination, I hope Trump BOMBARDS his twitter feed DAILY with photos of the San Francisco she helped bring down.
Agreed. But still the San Fransicko Comical almost never prints anything even remotely against the international communist doctrinal line.
Yes! I’m shocked this was printed in the San Fran Chronicle.
I agree 100%. I’m tired of the whole world thinking we’re some kind of Motel 6.
