Ridgecrest, California A 6.4 magnitude earthquake is still fresh on everyone's mind in Ridgecrest and the aftershocks won't let them forget it. After the quake, rattled nerves kept Donnie Morrison's family up through the night.
"We had our shoes by the bed. We had our clothes ready to go if we had to bail out real quick," Morrison said.
More than 1,000 aftershocks have rocked the community. CBS News witnessed the biggest aftershock while preparing for an early morning live shot. Another struck during an interview with seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones.

May God help them stay safe.
And more:
“”This earthquake has not changed the potential for a big earthquake striking an urban area. The probability of a really big earthquake in L.A. is 100 percent,” Dr. Jones said.”

Why is this news? There are ALWAYS 1000s of afterdhocks after a sizable earthquake.
There are also many earthquakes in CA. But when one hits, it is still news.
Lucy is always so juicy.
The big one? Maybe, maybe not, but go to Kansas and I’ll guarantee tornado’s every year.

If LA is still standing, it wasn’t powerful enough.
I say when it goes, the rest of us say congrats, california is no longer part of the usa. Go eff yourselves.
“What about just the area that was hit by the Independence Day quake? Is that area now relieved of quake strain?
“Parts of several other faults in remote areas of California were actually brought closer to failure by the 4th July quake, they wrote.
Some areas hit by Thursdays quake likely became loaded with more seismic strain after two previous temblors the 1872 magnitude 7.6 Owens Valley and the 1992 magnitude 7.2 Landers earthquakes.
“In an interview Friday, Stein said it looks pretty clear that the Garlock fault and the northern part of the Blackwater fault were stressed from the Independence Day quake. The Garlock fault is probably the more worrisome of the two at a length of 175 miles, its mathematically capable of an earthquake with a magnitude in the high 7s.”
“Fortunately for the most populous areas of California, the Garlock fault is in a remote location along the northern boundary of the Mojave Desert, reducing the potential impact of a major quake on it, Stein said.”
UPDATE:
“An earthquake that jolted a large swath of Southern California has produced more than 1,400 aftershocks and left what looks like a “scar across the desert,” scientists said Friday.”

Just felt another roller. I’m in Bakersfield, 110 miles west of Ridgecrest. My pool sloshing water out, chandeliers swinging.
Back before the 1906 SF quake, there were a number of pre-cusor quakes in the central valley in the 7.x size.
Two does not make a trend but SF and the Cascadia Fault off shore of OR are both overdue.
I was in the 6.9 in the Bay Area.
This is news.
I was close to Napa for the 6.9....that was huge...
Turns out the were pre shocks.
I thought, no danger here in the SF Bay Area since that big earthquake today happened in Southern California. But I thought about it, and advised my wife to take breakables off shelves, just in case. We're in So.SF about 1-1/2 miles from the San Andreas Fault. I remember the 1989 quake, we had vases jumping off tables and shelves, and a cabinet door broke off. Just a few days ago my wife had me install two picture frames above our bed headboard - I always install a secondary wire attached to the wall so if they fall then the wire will catch the frame, and use plexi instead of glass in the frame. Other furniture have attachments to the wall to prevent falling over. Be safe and secure stuff!
My figuring is that more quakes are going to happen south of us long before a big one hits here, or that the Cascadia Fault will slip. But one never knows for sure...
I live in Bakersfield. Hubby said it sloshed a bunch of water out of the pool and flooded our patio room. Im in Ventura on our boat and boy were we rockin and rollin. I was afraid one of our lines would snap. My neighbor came out with his bug out bag and was leaving.
The real wonder of the internet is that despite the veil of an anonymous screen name and a distance of thousands of miles, an asshole will always be revealed, usually in the worst possible light.
Yea, I had water coming out of my pool too. Even cracked on of my slabs.
