Actually, he pleaded guilty to one count of sex with a minor.
He spent like 8 weeks in prison undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
According to Polanski, his lawyer, and the lawyer for the young female, the judge had previously agreed to sentence Polanski to time served.
Then, the judge started telling people that he was going to sentence Polanski to 50 years, and Polanski fled.
