Greek conservatives on course for election win
BBC ^ | July 2019

Greece's opposition party New Democracy are set to win the country's snap general election, exit polls suggest. Led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the centre-right party is projected to defeat Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras's leftist Syriza party. New Democracy is forecast to win 38-42% of the vote, while Syriza is projected to win 26.5-31.5%. That would give New Democracy an outright majority, as the winner receives 50 extra seats in parliament. The first official results are expected later on Sunday evening.

What does New Democracy stand for?

New Democracy has promised to lower taxes and privatise services in the country, which is still feeling the effects of the 2008 financial crisis.

Greece has been in receipt of a series of bailout programmes over the past decade, which it officially "exited" last August as economic growth returned.

But youth unemployment remains high, and New Democracy has counted many 18-24 year olds among its supporters.

Leftists ruined Greece. The normal person has a big job. Get Greeks working again, and kick the non-Greek “immigrants” out!

I’ll be cautiously optimistic. Saw the new PM is a Harvard educated banker. Could be great if it means he witnessed how diabolical the globalists are...or he could be one of them, simply lied to voters to get power, new boss same as old boss.

Greek conservatives only want a German Bank subsidy increase every other year instead of every year.

Saw the new PM is a Harvard educated banker.

That's not a good sign, although the Fabians are probably ecstatic.

Conservative? Centre-right?

has the BBC gone sane? I thought there were only center-left (communist), moderate (socialist/communist) and radical extreme far right crazies (somewhat to the left of the Chamber of Commerce Republicans in the US) in the European political spectrum as defined by the media.

Makes me want to hang out in Hydra. Just heard about it in NRO’s story on Leonard Cohen. He apparently was a real cad like B.J. and the Kennedys. But then if you have that talent why shouldn’t take advantage of women that come calling?

New Democracy aren’t even close to Trump. They’re the same establishment party that has been around since the junta ended. They’re the equivalent of Mitt Romney.

I doubt anywhere in Greece is as good as it once was or as bad as it once was. Fornication doesn’t get one anywhere good. I miss all the old currencies in Europe though.

The new government will soon become unpopular, just like the last popular government did. The actual solutions to the problems in Greece are opposed by too many Greeks. They all want somebody to fix things, but the fixes will hurt their own pocket books and then the people are against them. One of the worst places to be a politician in a democracy today is in Greece.
