Britain said on Monday it had contacted Washington to express regret for the leak of confidential memos in which its ambassador described U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration as “dysfunctional” and “inept”.
The memos from Kim Darroch, ambassador to Washington, were divulged to a Sunday newspaper, annoying Trump and embarrassing London.
“Contact has been made with the Trump administration, setting out our view that we believe the leak is unacceptable,” Prime Minister Theresa May’s spokesman told reporters. “It is, of course, a matter of regret that this has happened.”
Trade minister Liam Fox, who is visiting Washington, told BBC radio he would apologize to Trump’s daughter Ivanka, whom he is due to meet.
“I will be apologizing for the fact that either our civil service or elements of our political class have not lived up to the expectations that either we have or the United States has about their behavior, which in this particular case has lapsed in a most extraordinary and unacceptable way,” he said.

It’s always the same. The “problem” the UK has is that they got caught, not the substance of Darroch’s “comments.” But Trump rises above this petty crap, because he knows that May is done, and Darroch will go with her. The British have become just a basket of rotten snakes, this probably doesn’t deserve a response.
An administration that played hardball would leak photos of the Brit ambassador naked with young boys.
The “Deep State” was willing to throw Darroch under the bus and risk damaging UK/US relations to make Trump look bad.
Actually, the point was to damage relations. And almost certainly Darroch approved the leak.
This "apology" is just another excuse for Reuters and CNN to call the President bad names all over again.
Agreed! I see no apology for the remark itself, therefore May probably really does believe the Trump administration to be inept.

...The 1961 Vienna Treaty on Diplomatic Relations, which codifies concepts such as diplomatic immunity and the inviolability of embassies, gives states quite a bit of leeway on kicking out diplomats. Article 9 states, “The receiving state may at any time and without having to explain its decision, notify the sending state that the head of the mission or any member of the diplomatic staff of the mission is persona non grata or that any other member of the staff of the mission is not acceptable. In any such case, the sending state shall, as appropriate, either recall the person concerned or terminate his functions with the mission.”

As you said, a sane government, would recall this buffoon ambassador and replace them immediately.
I think it’s all a contrived setup. Ambassador was in on it. These same people worked and conspired with Chris Steel. Just more fake news for the memory hole.
