Asking on the Census about citizenship is only common sense, only Democrats or others seeking to turn our country in a 3rd world socialist hell hole would think otherwise.

Republican plot to steal the next election. It’s designed to suppress funding for low-income communities. It’s just racist.

This is all media code for opposites of what they say. Maybe not diametrically, but let me decode what they really mean;

Plot to steal the next election really means, plot to stop the next election from being stolen.
No real reason to go in depth here. Driver’s licenses for illegals, ballot harvesting, etc.
We can’t have only citizens voting here. That would be a travesty. /s

Suppress funding to low income communities is based on the notion that people will lie or not complete a census form rather than have to answer this question. Without debating how much that would be true, what is assumed here is that tax payers everywhere need to pay for ever growing enclaves and ‘sanctuaries’ of illegals. So to say that this is an effort to suppress funding is another way of saying that they want to protect fraudulent use of tax payers money from being exposed.
We can’t have transparency, now can we? /s

Racism. This implies that the reason people care about illegal immigration is skin color or ethnicity. To imply it is to be racist in itself. Nobody even knows where illegals are originating from because it’s always changing, and that sort of information is not reported for the most part. A shift seems to have occured from Mexico, to other latin American countries, now to Asian and African sources, but we could be getting a half a million immigrants from northern europe not not really know it. Of course I’m being facitious on that last part. The powers behind illegal immigration would do everything they could to stop millions of illegals coming from northern europe, particularly if they appeared to have right-leaning social and political values. Why, because racism doesn’t really have anything to do with what drives this. Politics does. Everyone knows it, on both sides

Section II of Amendment XIV inherently requires the census to have a citizenship question, since it requires:
1. every person be counted, and
2. Congressional apportionment by Section I citizens resident in the several states.

Amendment XIV, Section 2, “their respective numbers” refers back to countable objects, which can only be citizens:

“Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside...

“Section 2. Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers”
“,counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed.”

The Amendment replaced the original residents (with slave numbers discounted 40%) basis for Congressional apportionment described below:

“Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union,
according to their respective Numbers,
which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons,
including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed,
three fifths of all other Persons.

Amendment XIV, Sections 1 & 2 are clear in and of themselves as to Congressional apportionment by citizens.
