Trump orders agencies to hand over citizenship information to Commerce

President Donald Trump retreated from his quest to add a question about US citizenship to the 2020 census on Thursday, instead asking government agencies to provide records that could determine a head-count of citizens without polling census-takers directly.

The turnaround comes after Trump repeatedly said he would continue fighting to insert the question despite a Supreme Court ruling that dealt a blow to the effort last month. It reflects legal reality intersecting with Trump's desire to bolster his image as an immigration hard-liner as he moves ahead with his 2020 reelection bid.

Instead of attempting to put the question on census forms, or adding it separately, Trump issued an executive order directing the Commerce Department to obtain citizenship data through means other than the census. That includes documents from the Department of Homeland Security, which houses citizenship and asylum services, and the Social Security Administration.

The order was signed and released to reporters late Thursday night.

well, then, that makes at least three of us. Trump can demand the executive branch agencies compile that info for him, BUT THEY WON’T. What’s he going to do with that info, even if he gets it? It’s not going to affect the electoral votes-—that the states with huge illegal populations will be stealing, they will still have them. It’s not going to affect the federal money dispersed to these states to cover their expenses for these illegals-— they’ll still get that, because Congress will use the census figures. Soooooo, I’m thinkin’ it should be someone else that should F___ off.

i see.
yes, it would seem it wouldn’t correct the over-representation problem in NY/CA/etc.

if that remains the case, then this is all a big LOSER for us!

If there are records of citizens then a citizen count should be easy and a subsequent simple subtraction from the census count yields the answer.

If you live in a democrat district, don’t respond to the census.

The CNN article failed to report Barr’s statement that illegals should not be counted in determining Congressional seat apportionment. That is the first really big issue on this for an upcoming court fight. Whoever controls the Whitehorse in 2020 will play a role in the outcome of that one. Get each of the Dem candidates on record regarding their position that issue.... they predictably will go all in with the illegals against the actual citizens. Another plus element to Trump in 2020.

If Trump requires I-9 information to be forwarded by employers and verifies them, immigrants are screwed.

Watch the IRS start disallowing deductions for payments to illegal immigrants.

You think they actually claim them as deductions now? They just pay them cash, and are thus free from minimum wage, SSI, Unemployment, Medicaid and Medicare contributions, and if they try to unionize or even complain about conditions, just call ICE. As for government oversight, they don’t oversee much.

Has to be criminal punishments.

President Donald Trump retreated from his quest ...”

SOMEONE is warning Trump off of eminently justifiable constitutional confrontations... The man keeps punking out on totally solid ground. It’s infuriating.

Ahead of court ruling, Census Bureau seeks citizenship data - March 7, 2019

Under a proposed plan, the Department of Homeland Security would provide the Census Bureau with a broad swath of personal data about noncitizens, including their immigration status, The Associated Press has learned. A pending agreement between the agencies has been in the works since at least January, the same month a federal judge in New York blocked the administration from adding the citizenship question to the 10-year survey.

-- SOMEONE is warning Trump off of eminently justifiable constitutional confrontations... --

The confrontation he is side stepping is running afoul of court injunctions. Absence of the Q on the census is the court's doing. Credit the court with making this decision.

Meanwhile, the census can and will include citizenship information. The only thing that changes is the source of the data. Rather than being sourced from questionnaire, the source is agency data.

This is heading for showdown “””

Thanks for my laugh of the day.

The way to handle lying, lawless maleveloents is to confront them as soon as possible; as soon as you have an issue to hang it on. What will be the difference between the showdown you project and the ones that the President has walked away from again and again?

I know for a FACT that the Social Security Administration has a HUGE fund from FICA payments made on invalid social security numbers or the wrong person paying on a stolen number on which they are sitting and earning millions in interest. THIS is why Democrats are in favor of illegal immigration. In every avenue of life regarding illegal immigration, the Federal agencies make huge amounts of money.

They try to claim the deductions.

Thus all the IRS Form 1099 filing requirements relating to independent contractors.
