The president should have said, “To save money and make things simple we are going to reprint the 2000 census and use that.”

They should just go all biblical about this.
Something like this.
By executive order on (some pre determined day) we will be conducting our constitutionally mandated census. To assure accuracy will will require that all people return to their homeland for that month. All Americans wishing to be counted must return home. All Aliens must return home. Once our census is complete all legal residents can return to our glorious USA, should they so desire.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, it’s for the good of the children.
Thank you.

NPR, quoting the Urban Institute, says the census threatens to put more than 4 million people at risk of being undocumented. The headline warns the addition of the question could lead to worst undercount of black, Latinx people in 30 years.
How does the census make people 'undocumented'? There's almost no one here without documents - every citizen and LPR has 'em, and most illegal aliens have some kind of fake or stolen documentation. Either way, then census doesn't take documentation from anyone. It's just attempting to verify how many citizens there are in the US.
How would a citizenship question make blacks underreport themselves? Because it's a 'Trump thing' so they refuse to do it? That's on them, not on Trump.
And how do you get Latinx from Latino? that's not a typo, the 'x' and 'o' are on opposite sides of the keyboard!
