My son said last night that his friend’s mom was deported in the last few days. His friend’s dad said not to worry because she has a Mexican cop friend who will get her back in. These are 11 year old boys discussing these events. I’m not sure why the dad and my son’s friend are not being deported as well. The friend barely spoke English two years ago when my son met him.
I remember when my son started school here a few years ago, he came home and said he was the only English speaker at his table. In Alabama. I was shocked by the number of Spanish speakers and thought we were in Arizona again. I don’t think they are all Mexican, and I don’t know how many have claimed asylum.
