An offer has been made to settle a legal dispute over an incident at a York County golf course that made national headlines. But that offer isnt likely to settle anything any time soon.
When police were called about five black women playing at the Grandview Golf Course on April 21, 2018, the complaint alleged against them was that they were playing too slowly.
This claim, refuted by other golfers playing behind the women, did not result in any charged being filed. The group of women then filed a lawsuit in response, alleging that the call to police was due to racial discrimination.
According to the York Daily Record, Grandviews settlement offer in the lawsuit is free golf lessons with Steve Chronister, the man who called the police and father of one of Grandviews owners, to improve their golf game.
Myneca Ojo, mayor of Hanover and one of the plaintiffs in the case, referred to the settlement offer as insulting, as did fellow plaintiff Sandra Thompson, according to the York Daily Record.
The lawsuit was filed in June of 2018, with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Committee investigating the case.
Ojo and Thompson were with three other golfers - Karen Crosby, Carolyn Dow and Sandra Harrison - on the day the police were called. All five were members of the country club.
I thought golf courses were trying increase participation by anybody willing to pay the ridiculous green fees, since no one new wants to play golf these days and the old players are being picked off by time. Women (like me) sometimes take up golf (like I did two years ago) and when we are learning we can be slow. If our money isn’t good enough, whose is?
Chronister WAS the management...he asked them to speed up.

How about the group in back of them? And/or in back of them?
Maybe they really were holding things up and the people directly the fivesome females were slowpokes themselves.
You expected me to actually read the article? 8~)
“They probably asked them to speed up and immediately got the type of ghetto-centric tongue-lashing that in that culture is pretty standard at the swap-meet but is utterly unknown around a countryclub.
THAT is probably why they called the cops.”
Good insight. I would bet money that you have it absolutely right on.
Being a golfer, I've experienced slow play and obnoxious golfers. The worst golfing experience I have had to deal with is pricks from New Jersey while golfing at mostly private club in Brooksville, FL. They started drinking on the first hole. By the the time they got to the back 9, they were arguing with the neighbors about loud music and foul language. I have never seen anything like it on a golf course.....
This is as bad as calling 911 because McDonald’s is out of Chicken McNuggets.
“...Myneca Ojo, mayor of Hanover...”
Well, there’s yer problem, right there...
I could give insulting free lessons - Im really good at it.
Having grown up in North Philly... I’d say you are “spot-on, old chap....”
Tough situation. I deal with the coppers at least once a week. Found a kid sleeping in a running car last week. Good kid, I knew him. The other kid got shot by his brother. I am boss until he gets out of jail. His job is my job... until I fail.
One is presently still dead this day. 23 years on him. Floating face down in a local pond the next day. It is not a conspiracy, he was just stupid. His equally intelligent girlfriend watched him flap out his last with a 911 operator. She was afraid of water. 6 feet of water 25 feet from shore. Couldn’t tell the operator what pond.
Three teens circling my operation at 0300... I lost them.
They were hostile of intent... us vampires can smell this. but found josh sleeping in a running car. Never found the silver Camry. Those teens were good at whatever they were doing. I think they were after a girl who worked with us... whatever. It looks bad for me when people under my supervise get dead.
I can call the copper, or shoot your ass dead. I always call the copper first. It is a decorum thing. This article situation is a nightmare scenario, race and all.
A hundred nitwits last month. Not one worth the bullet. 5 freaked out black females... quit and call a copper before I touch.
I can still remember when this stuff amused me. I just do it now. Fire the freaks, stop the insane... And call the copper.
Eventually I will be the one successfully charged and prosecuted. This matters in small amount to my being. I don’t generally even carry firestick now. Not worth it. Just stab.
This is a clown world.
I got tricks too.
Lotta lawyers making a lotta money off false accusations of hate.
You’re White, you’re guilty.
“before I touch” was misstatement on more levels than necessarily can be enunciated.
I touch no man or woman during civic political interaction, and no one touches me in same circumstance.
Civics.
I’ve been playing golf for a long time. Since 1955 when I was 8 years old. I’ve belonged to private golf clubs and have been playing public courses for the past 30 years. I am not that good but have always been able to play without holding anyone up. Slow play is the worst thing you can have on a golf course. Beginners should not attempt playing on a golf course in prime hours until they develop the ability to assess the next shot, pick a club and hit the ball. That should take less than a minute. It typically takes me about 30 seconds. Even if you duff the shot, so long as you can get to the next one and hit it you should not hold anyone up. If your group is more than a hole behind, let those bunched up behind you play through. Playing golf on a course if a bit like driving on the freeway. If you can’t keep pace with the flow of traffic, stay the hell out of the fast lane.
Exactly my reaction and the reason is that a fivesome IS much slower. No club I've played at allows a "fivesome"
911: 911, What’s your emergency?
Old Man: Yeah, I’m at a golf course right now and we got some slow golfers in front of us.
911: Sir, We’re not going to go down there and make them golf faster. That’s not a criminal issue.
Old Man: !@#$%&*! Then somebody’s gonna get an ass whoopin!
I believe "The Civil Rights Act of 1964 did make it a crime."
I suspect the case is still not settled.
Where I presently operate, it is white officers dealing with dysfunctional humans of every race.
It is important to understand the psychology of the individual enforcement personal as their sensibilities will necessarily deviates from political norm.
The waffen schultstaffel had initial issues with suicides within rank. This issue was resolved, by turning death sentenced sociopaths into army group commanders. And killing all those of rank, but no devotion.
Same old thing. Eventually we just kill as many of them as we can get... before they kill more of us.
The ones we missed... presently control global information gathering and dissemination apparatus.
We do this as sport, here.
Exactly what I thought when I read thru the article. Beat me to it.
