Many of his slaves stayed on with Forrest after the war and were quite devoted to him.

Remember Irwin Rommel, the Desert Fox "Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book?" Rommel studied Forrest's ideas and uses of mobile artillery.

The point here is that he had completely changed his views and actually worked hard to bring the races together! Not that he SHOULD be honored for being a great general for the Confederacy.
