The only long term hope for an end to the hatred is to deny it any place to thrive. This does not mean hating the haters. If restraining them from violence is required so be it. These foolish and immature children must be taught the true lessons of our common humanity by learning the truths of our faith. It means overcoming them with the tough love of God.
There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him:
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
I would say that the attacker qualifies on at least five and maybe all seven of the things that God hates.
Hate is not a wrong thing.
We should hate bad things.
We should not hate without cause.
But as David would say, “Is there not a cause?”
