The Feds Are About To Kill Maine's Lobster Industry And Hurt Thousands Of Workers For Some Bogus Whale Regulation

"There is a disturbing lack of evidence connecting the Maine lobster industry to recent right whale deaths,” Mills wrote in a Facebook post. “The Maine lobster fishery is not the primary problem for right whales.”

Whatever they do, you can be sure the elites that frequent Martha’s Vineyard will still enjoy fresh Maine lobster whenever they want.

Interesting this wasn’t blamed on the usual suspect, climate change. I’m curious as to why?

Do the lobster fisherman wear MAGA hats?

This sounds suspiciously similar to obama and his ‘reasoning’ for destroying the coal insustry.

In Oregon, they are trying to kill the timber industry. Destroy traditional, practical jobs and vanquish conservative voters.

They’re doing the same thing to the west coast dungeness crabbers. Closed California early blaming on whale deaths, which have nothing to do with commercial crabbing.

I was curious so I tried to read both arguments and there is simply no science to base this decision on that shows any correlation between the lobster industry and harm to any whales.

I am shocked that NOAA is moving forward with this and hope the administration will respond appropriately. What the hell is Wilbur Ross thinking here?

You chopped up the story removing important context of the quote:

Even the left-wing progressive Governor Janet Mills says that there is scant evidence that the activity of the lobstermen is to blame for any endangerment towards these whales. Six right whales did, in fact, die this past year, but those deaths occurred in Canadian waters.

“There is a disturbing lack of evidence connecting the Maine lobster industry to recent right whale deaths,” Mills wrote in a Facebook post. “The Maine lobster fishery is not the primary problem for right whales.”

Janet Mills ran as a progressive, but in many ways she is just a practical Mainer from rural Maine who understands the struggles of working while being regulated to death by government.

The live lobsters I’ve seen these past two years are from Canada. American grown vegetables and fruit are finally making a comeback in most grocery stores.

Whales don’t fit into crab pots, so WTF over? I never heard of them breaking into them either...

Wikipedia - Gov. Janet Mills
Mills supports LGBT rights. In May 2019, she signed a bill banning conversion therapy, a widely discredited practice aimed at changing one's sexual orientation or gender identity, from being used on minors. (Shows how bad the volunteer Wikipedia editors can be.)[26][27][28] One year earlier, the same bill had passed both chambers of the Maine Legislature, but was vetoed by then-Governor Paul LePage.[29]

Lobstermen are a tough breed. I wouldn’t want to be policing these guys. I’d be afraid of getting shot or drowned.

I guess the environmentalists (ignorants) think they are getting tangled in the lines & buoys. Not one incident of proof though, none.

I watch Deadliest Catch pretty religiously and I have never heard them make mention of any large sea animals getting caught up in their lines.

Perhaps that’s just a small microcosm of the industry but I would think it would have been mentioned at least once during the thousands of deployments and recovery of the pots.

I like tasty crustaceans and whales both but lets not create a handwringing fest when there is no need.

It’s all about creating disgruntled ex-workers that succumb to welfare and democratic leadership.

Why post such a brief excerpt? 300 words are allowed for such.

Here are about 200 more:

The NOAA says that Maine’s lobster industry is to blame for the killing of right whales, an endangered species, and has enacted regulations set to take place this September which will harm the already struggling industry. Yet, the evidence says that the proposed regulation will in no way actually help the whales and will instead only burden lobstermen.

As reported by the Portland Herald Press, NOAA “has ordered Maine to craft a detailed plan to reduce the lobster industry’s threat to right whales by 60 percent by September. Federal regulators say entanglement in fishing gear and ship strikes are driving the whale’s decline, with just over 400 of them left.”

Their intended regulation would force the lobster industry “to cut the number of buoy lines in the Gulf of Maine by half this September.”

Even the left-wing progressive Governor Janet Mills says that there is scant evidence that the activity of the lobstermen is to blame for any endangerment towards these whales. Six right whales did, in fact, die this past year, but those deaths occurred in Canadian waters.,,

As CBS 13 reports, “ For lobsterman George Anderson, he’s never seen one in his 40 years of fishing. ‘Seen all kinds of whales, basking sharks, sun fish but no right whales,’ Anderson said.” - https://townhall.com/tipsheet/timothymeads/2019/07/14/the-feds-are-about-to-kill-maines-lobster-industry-and-thousands-of-workers-for-some-bogus-whale-regulation-n2550029

Not sure if you’re thinking I’m the one creating a hangwringing fest, but nope, not even close!

I fished on commercial crab boats, west coast, for several years. Spent 30 years working in the industry. Nope, no whales ever caught in crab gear that I’ve heard of. Crabbers, of course, are fighting this ignorant closure.
