Socialism is a hot topic these days. Democratic presidential wannabes, including Bernie Sanders, say theyre for it, and recent polls indicate about 40 percent of American young people are too.
Over the last few years, my buddy Ben Powell, who is a professor of economics at Texas Tech, and I toured the world, drank a lot of beer, and saw for ourselves how things are going in former and current socialist nations. It turns out the quality and availability of beer in each of these countries is an accurate, at-a-glance way to assess their political systems.
Our first stop was Sweden, which Bernie Sanders and others extol as an ideal example of socialism. Ive got news for Bernie and his crew -- Sweden is no more socialist than the United States. Ben and I have been there, and the beer is good and cold, produced by privately owned companies, imported from all over the world, and sold at privately owned bars at unregulated prices. Those prices are high, because of Swedens notoriously high taxes, which are about 50% higher than in the U.S., but thats not socialism.
Socialism is a system of government in which the means of production and the raw materials are controlled by the government. Think of your least-favorite government office -- is it the Post Office? Or maybe the DMV? Then imagine every business in our nation, from Starbucks to Procter & Gamble to car manufacturers, being run the same way.
What does that do to beer? We went to Venezuela and Cuba to find out.

Collectivism, central planners, control freaks ...
of course they want socialism. They want to take what I earned and take for themselves what is unearned. ef em.

Yep, the reality. We have free government run schools now - K-12. AND they suck. That's what 'free college' would look like after 15 years.
He's right, you know. There isn't much beer can't do.
There is an even easier way - the beer gone bad that we call "bread". If you can't get it, you're in a socialist country.

**************
Every business and person in this country is effected or controlled to a large degree by government. There are almost no products or service that government don’t touch or regulate. Likewise for our personal lives which are increasingly under the thumb of a watchful, domineering government.
The influence of government is pervasive. We are already living under what is a de facto form of socialism. If you don’t believe it just step outside the lines and see what happens.
Trump is trying his best to reverse this but he gets no support from the useless GOP which is also pro big government.
If we ever want to have any hope of restoring our liberties and freedom we will need to take some bold steps. Trump is trying to tell us that.
Do those bold steps include war?
“Socialism fails in practice because it is bad in theory. “
There is nothing in the definition of bold that implies that.
Bold does not mean bellicose.
Here’s a hint: Trump is bold.
Socialism is cynicism towards society. Its cause and/or effect is naiveté towards government.
With each passing generation of useful idiots socialism needs to be repackaged as something new and REVOLUTIONARY. Like those sleazy late night infomercials and free lunch seminars pushing the same old get rich quick scams. Such as buying real estate with no $$$ down. Making a killing in stocks regardless of market conditions. Investing thousands in the latest snake oil while building a downline or some other unworkable pyramid racket. They’ll tell you other systems failed because they were implemented wrong but they have a proven system that works. Those 4 deadly words THIS TIME IT’S DIFFERENT!! And like the red diaper doper babies and hippies before them so many millenials fall for this crap like so many brainwashed little puppies.
For Millenials:
“F#ck you”, sums it up.
Anybody who wants socialism should move to Cuba, N Korea or China.
How about OPPRESSION AND MISERY ???
Those are two very good words that summarize ‘socialism’
People that contribute zero positive value to society and do not save, sacrifice, or take risks to grow a business always feel entitled to the blood sweat and tears of those that do
Notice all of the Billionaires and Millionaires pushing Socialism on everyone else demanding that the middle class suck it up and pay 50% income tax as do some Socialist nations. Free healthcare isn’t free.
Awfully difficult for someone who honestly believes in ‘sharing tge wealth’ to amass that much personal wealth and not share it equitably with all of the employees or shareholders or the community at large.
