Opt-Out Now If you are a dues-paying member of Education Minnesota, the union recently expanded your annual opt-out window to 30 days in September (Sept. 1-Sept. 30). The union has also stated that members who did not sign recommitment forms in the 2017-2018 school year will be allowed to revoke their union membership at any time. We will keep you informed if we hear of teachers successfully resigning outside of the window.
While the resignation window expansion is good news, the bad news is the window still exists. Educated Teachers MN believes that the September Window unreasonably burdens the First Amendment right of teachers recognized in Janus v. AFSCME to decline to fund the union. This unreasonable burden, however, must either be ruled on by a court of law, changed by the legislature or recognized by the union before teachers civil rights are fully restored.
In the meantime, the most effective way to resign from membership is to opt-out during the September Window. To assist you in the process, we recommend that you prepare your resignation letter in advance so you can enjoy the summer and focus on your students in the fall.
Also, if you create your letter in advance, Educated Teachers MN will remind you by email to send it in during the September Window. If you change your mind, you can hold the letter. It is your choice.
If you are interested in challenging the September Window, please email us at info@EducatedTeachersMN.com.

The teachers union is VERY aggressive in keep faculty on the plantation. Opt out and get shunned. Teacher union dues is a financial pipeline to the Rats.
Closer to reality, and the left will fight everyone who tries to challenge them.
I teach in Iowa, over the years I’ve seen less and less of my co-workers beholden to the almighty union. Still there are too many who believe they are union members first and teachers second.
This is interesting. What motivated a union to make it easier to leave? (I like it - but it’s surprising).

A court ruling that says that unions can’t require membership or paying dues.

I’ve never understood this “sign up window” crap that socialist monopolies (Obamacare, Social Security, anything the government does, this union thing) do. I can’t imagine Amazon, cable TV companies, Netflix, or fricking any competently run organization saying “your sign up window begins one month before your birthday and ends one month after, and if you miss it, we don’t want you as a customer for another year.
Privatize it all.
Thank you FRiend.
