The ordinance, introduced by Councilwoman Kate Harrison, goes into effect Jan. 1, 2020, and phases out the use of natural gas by requiring all new single-family homes, town homes and small apartment buildings to have electric infrastructure. After its passage, Harrison thanked the community and her colleagues “for making Berkeley the first city in California and the United States to prohibit natural gas infrastructure in new buildings.”

Especially if the natural gas is coming from cows.

Congratulations, Ocasio-Cortez. You did it!

Not a problem.

I suggest burning old rubber tires to cook and keep warm.

Only the best for Berzerkely.

These people are setting themselves up for a world of hurt for energy. Maybe bicycle powered generators can take up the slack in a crisis.

Meanwhile, California generates 43% of it's electricity from Natural Gas.

Not going to be too good when PG&E does one of their five day electrical power shut downs. At least with a gas stove you can still cook.

OMG. Our city here in Canada was behind the times, but slowly people have converted OUT of heating oil and electric baseboards FOR natural gas. Natural gas is dirt cheap. Who are these idiots?

Which tells you they will NEVER be satisfied. Plastic straws ban. Then plastic bag bans. Natural gas out. I am surprised more don’t complain about those places that kill fish using hydro damns. Soon it will be cooking fires - until they ban those.

After helping to make California electricity among the most expensive in the nation, they now demand all new buildings ONLY use electricty - continuing to add pressure toward still higher electric rates.

Oh those California leftists are soooo smart!! NOT!!!

I wish we could make the legal case that such an edict amounted to a “taking” without due process or compensation.
