Trump has not built a single mile of new border fence after 30 months in office
Washington Examiner ^ | July 20, 2019 | Anna Giaritelli

Posted on 07/21/2019 6:08:29 AM PDT by george76

The Trump administration has not installed a single mile of new wall in a previously fenceless part of the U.S.-Mexico border in the 30 months since President Trump assumed office, despite his campaign promise to construct a “big beautiful wall.”

...

all the fencing completed since Trump took office is "in place of dilapidated designs" because the existing fence was in need of replacement.

The agency said that it had built 51 miles of steel bollard fence with funding that was set aside during fiscal 2017 and 2018. But while the funding was meant both to replace outdated walls and to place barriers where there previously had been none, the government has only completed the replacement projects. The projects to secure areas with no fence are still in the works.

The 50 miles of completed replacement barrier is a 10-mile gain since early April. In Trump’s two and a half years in office, his administration has installed an average 1.7 miles of barrier per month, and none of it in areas that did not previously have some sort of barrier. A total 205 miles of new and replacement barrier has been funded in the two and a half years since Trump took office.

...

Army Corps of Engineers moved faster on replacement projects than the new ones because the approval process for environmental and zoning permits was far less extensive than areas of the border with no barrier.

...

Roughly 700 miles of the 2,000-mile border has some sort of barrier as a result of the Secure Fence Act

....

300 miles of barrier is Normandy style, or a handful of steel beams fastened together to prevent vehicular traffic from getting by. However, the four-foot-tall fence does not prevent people from crossing.

You can throw a lot of words out end of day the administration itself is reporting no New Wall built. And many areas along Arizona have old strands of barbwire. I've been there. Nothing done to stop people crossing. This is the problem, all talk, words, little action. Yes, some existing barriers being upgraded and replaced, but the vast majority of the border is left unsecured. Trump cannot finish this before January 2021 if it hasn't already started. That is a lot of miles secured.

This is the same with deporting 30-60 million illegals. Had he started on Day One it would have required 20,000 to 41,000 deportees every day over four years. Now, it would take 55,000 to 110,000 deportees every day to accomplish in his first four years (and as Lyn' Ted offers, he's only 50/50 on winning second term). Yet, here we are with everyone freaking out over his "millions starting next week" that turns into 2,000, and then, as we now see, none. All talk. And I say this as a supporter. I am disappointed and I do not see this getting better or resolving itself in the next 1-1/2 years or even another 4 years when he wins reelection despite Lyn' Ted's forecast.

“This a prime reason we need to replace ‘never-Trump’ RINO’S in the Congress in 2020.

The ‘open-borders’ crowd is very, very powerful and they have no intentions of going down without a fight.

Getting rid of Democrat and ‘never-Trump RINO’ politicians at all levels of government has to be a major priority in 2020.
Just electing Trump in 2020 is not enough.”

You have the correct answer. I am repeating your post, to make sure more people see it and think about it.

We Build The Wall wall was new.

Also wall where there was only a fence is new wall.

New wall is new wall, no matter where it’s put up.

That is exactly what I was thinking. The government is not repairing the barrier. The government is replacing the barrier with a “new” barrier. The “new” fencing or barriers slows down humans as well as traffic unlike the old barrier it replaced. In other words, it is a “new” barrier not repairing the existing barrier.

I think Ann Coulter helped write that article.

“Believe me, some freepers will soon be chiming in with this bs. Undoubtedly fans of Ann Coulter.”

Oh yeah, no doubt. THE NEVER TRUMPER FREEPERS GANG. I can name 12 of these clowns and one of them even starts with “g”. He’s ALWAYS on wall threads and just like flies on turd, they go on attack mode on Trump.

The same usual suspects.

I think they have been replacing miles of the so called vehicle barriers that a kindergarten class could swarm through in about ten seconds with 18’ to 30’ steel bollard fencing.

That qualifies as miles of new, effective fencing replacing ineffective fencing.

Yes the real issue is too many Rs support open borders and illegal immigration. Of course the rats fight him tooth and nail every step of the way, but the Rs that support open borders and illegal immigration are happy to join them.

I totally admire him because he gets up every day and continues the fight. Yes he loses some battles, but he wins many too. Win, lose, draw, or get rained out he still gets up every day and fights for our country and we the people.

I’m old enough to remember Trump signing multiple wall-less, business-as-usual mass-migration spending bills in 2017 and 2018, without so much as a veto threat, much less a veto. Back then it was always “next time”. “Next time he’ll fight”. Sorry if the facts upset your safe space snowflake.

Oh, piff. Yours is a comic book view of the world.

If Trump wanted it, it would be done. If it's not done, it's because Trump either didn't want to do it, or didn't want it bad enough. Again I say, piff.

A lot of the yellow vehicle fence in New Mexico has already been replaced under Trump with red pedestrian fence coming West from El Paso. The remaining area is to turn red up to monument 40 which is where the corner is where the bootheel of NM begins. Those projects were ready to begin and are part of the projects that are held up right now with the US Supreme Court considering a stay on the injunctions against it.

In Arizona some of the yellow on your map is now red as well. Not sure about locations there but there has been more pedestrian fence built in CA and TX as well.

Your map makes it easier to see what Trump has been doing, he is replacing vehicle barrier with pedestrian barrier, which is a huge difference and is a new wall. Anyone that doesn’t think so doesn’t understand the difference or it doesn’t fit their agenda.

You are exactly right. See my post right after yours at #110 to see what is being done.

You are dead on about the swarm through vehicle barrier.
