My Godson died of AIDS back in the early 80s before there were any blood tests...he was 22. and not gay...a bad transfusion. It is NOT a gay disease.
Really? Why wouldn’t they screen for known diseases in the blood supply?
We can all cite anecdotes. Sorry about your godson. Since a big majority of AIDS cases come from certain groups of people, people make generalizations. Of course there will always be individual exceptions to anything.
They do post-donation, but even so errors can occur. The problem is pre-donation - those who admit to having high risk lifestyles can still donate in those states whereas this used to be blocked to protect the blood supply.
I know you're not joking. I lived in FL when I was tested, near retirement centers. My wonderful doctor who did the test for me told me he wished retired people would come in because they were busy diddling around with one another.
Per CDC stats, 45% of people in the US with HIV are 50 years of age or older.
And how many of those of that age are in high risk groups?
According to the studies I’ve seen, very few - the supermajority of those infected over 50 are heterosexual, non-IV-drug users. The most common vector into such a community is that one person that’s infected (from whatever high-risk source) has hetero sex with someone else in the community - doesn’t even have to be cheating - and that second person has sex with others and the whole chain begins. Between legitimate dating and cheating, the disease gets around in the hetero community. Yes, gays and IV drug users are at the highest risk but that doesn’t mean that the ‘splash damage’ won’t get hetero/non-drug-using persons too.
The big problem with HIV is that it has a very long latency time so someone who is infected can infect a large number of others before they know they’re sick.
Thanks for your insight.
“How are these CHILDREN contracting HIV if they are not at risk?”
Today, now that we no longer protect children from men who suffer from same-sex attraction disorder, all male children are at risk.
There is nothing—nothing—a male homosexual would rather do than bugger a boy.
We no longer protect our children against pedophiles of *any* stripe. Girls as well as boys of *any* age are at risk as a result; if caught soon enough, early treatment won’t eradicate the virus but it will at least hopefully allow the infected child to live to adulthood and perhaps well beyond. If not caught... well, you’re looking at parents having to bury a young child not long after.
The homosexual penis has killed more people than have all of my weapons.
“Most Americans are not homosexuals or IV drug users, activities that would lead to HIV. So why would they need the test? Just askin.”
Perhaps they engage in heterosexual anal sex.
It is much more readily transmitted by anal sex than normal sex, for some rather obvious medical reasons.
Woman allows HIV positive male to bugger her. Every male who buggers her subsequently is at risk, whether or not they use IV drugs or engage in sodomy with males.
Nonsense. The transfusion of all blood and blood products in the US is regulated by the FDA, which REQUIRES HIV testing of every donor. No blood supplier can operate without the approval of the FDA.
Believe me, I know of what I speak as I am the head of a hospital blood bank and there are very strict regulations as transfusion of blood products can easily result in death if not properly tested. This includes not only blood and its components but tissue and coagulation factors.
See my post 63 - I clarified.

Or did they change the pre-donation screenings yet again in the three years since I last looked at it? I know CA removed the restrictions on homosexual blood donors.
68% of all HIV/AIDS cases in the USA are among <3% of the population - men who have sex with men, according to the CDC.
68% of male-to-female transgender sex workers have HIV, according to the CDC.
Most Americans don’t need an HIV test.
