Second GOP congressman this week announces retirement (Olson, Mitchell)
CBS News ^ | July 25, 2019

U.S. Rep. Pete Olson of Texas announced Thursday he would not seek re-election after his current term, becoming the second Republican congressman this week to do so. Olson's retirement could set up a fierce battle in his district, which was once a safe Republican district but has become increasingly Democratic, and national Democrats have made it clear they are focusing on Texas as a battleground state in 2020.

Olson's decision comes one day after Rep. Paul Mitchell of Michigan, announced his own retirement. Like Mitchell, he said his family was a big factor.

"As someone who has long advocated for policies that put our families first," Olson said in his statement. "It's time for me to take my own advice and be a more consistent presence to help our family."

Olson and Mitchell were among the first Republican congressmen to break with President Trump, who won by 8 points in Olson's district, after his racist tweets last week towards four progressive women of color. In his announcement on the floor, Mitchell cited "politics" and "rhetoric" as why he wouldn't seek re-election.

GOP need Congressional primary winners who can win in 2022 without Trump on the ballot along with effects of redistricting / reapportionment.

Are these RINOs who didn’t leave in 2018, or Cheap Labor Express folks, or good guys, or what?

A couple more GOOBs heading for the tall grass. You won’t see cowardice like this from the “Squad”. It’s just as well they’re running away.

You can thank none other than, Rick Perry, for making Texas a battleground state.

Mitchell represents the thumb of Michigan, definitely not RINO country. I’m embarrassed I had to look him up because his district includes my home town.

CBS FAKE News now writes “after his racist tweets” as if anything in the actual tweet referenced race. All the qualifying words that the lying MsM used the first few days to imply, but not claim, that the tweet was racist are now down the memory hole. SOP for the propaganda media.

Not a great start to getting the house back and now senator Collins is seriously thinking of not running again. She’s bad but can we get another republican Senator in Maine???? I thought we had enough house retirements in 2018 which was directly the reason we lost the house.

They are numbers towards our majority that we need if we want to win again. They are areas that were red but turning blue due to population shifts.

LS, what’s your take on this and the effect of the ‘blueing’ of Texas?

If someone’s got a read on this, LS does. Lucky to have him.

We have to start electing fighters. We have to stop electing people who just want to “get along” because that means they will side with the dims. We have to find the candidates we need, and support them all the way.

“It’s time for me to take my own advice and be a more consistent presence to help our family.”

Since Congress doesn’t work that many days per year, you know that is a lie. Congress is going on a six weeks vacation starting today.

Soros must be buying these people into a lucrative retirement.

More RINOs determined to cede power to the Marxist left. It worked in 2018, but hopefully there aren’t enough of these slimy POSs left to affect the outcome in 2020.

Either demographic shifts, or Trump has some unpleasant surprises for a bunch more Swamp critters.

We need to extirpate the GOP-e and Bush League and Cheap Labor Express (whether by defenestration out the first-floor window, or massive wedgies) from the Republican Party. They control the low-level functionaries by which candidates get *promulgated* to office: and they fight dirty. For which they are presumably paid well under the table by their Uniparty / Oligarch masters.

Does anyone bother to read the articles anymore before posting ignorant comments? These two “retirements” of Trump’s enemies are very positive developments. Once again, President Trump has smoked our enemy soldiers who’ve been wearing our uniform. He is the Human Minesweeper.

Olson’s district, Tom Delay’s old district, includes much of Fort Bend County. Beto spend a TON of money there, which was enough for the Dems to sweep the county-wide elections as well as the Houston courts of appeals. Nonetheless, Olson was re-elected by 5%. I am not too worried yet.
