U.S. Rep. Kenny Marchant will not seek reelection, marking the fourth recent GOP retirement in Texas

Last year, Marchant only won reelection by a three percentage point margin.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Kenny Marchant will not seek reelection in 2020, two sources confirmed to The Texas Tribune late Sunday.

He is the fourth member of the Texas delegation to announce his retirement in recent days. Marchant's decision was first reported by The New York Times.

Marchant, who was elected to Congress in 2004, is a founding member of the House Tea Party Caucus. He represents Texas’ 24th Congressional District, which spans the northern suburbs of Fort Worth and Dallas. The district has historically been reliably red, but Marchant’s margins of victory have grown thinner in recent elections. In 2016, he won by a comfortable two-digit margin. Last year, Marchant squeaked by with a 3 point win over Democrat Jan McDowell.

The swamp can't BELIEVE they've failed to take out Trump...

*or*

They realize that his second term is inevitable, and that he's going to be all out of gum by then.

Did he stay a member of the House Freedom Caucus?

Replacing Bush League Republicans is necessary for the survival of the Republic.

Flimsey Grahamnesty needs a primary challenger.

The Texas 24th is reliably Republican and it will be won by another Republican by a wider margin in 2020. Democrats have no chance in that district and have so shot at any of the four seats where Texas Republicans are retiring.

Let the Democrats waste their money

Marchant actually has an “A” grade from Numbers USA, same as Gohmert.

While we “contemplate” RINO Replacements, we should keep in mind what holding the Senate means for Trump’s overhaul of the Judiciary. We must not throw the baby out with the bathwater. We lost the house in some measure because of “Republican Retirements.” As bad as the GOPe is in the Senate, they are light years better than their RAT replacements would be.

Marchant has been my congress critter here in N Tx 24th district. He’s pretty low profile but a reliable conservative voter. I hope Kenny loses some weight for his health.

Trump should have run out of gum a long time ago.

Concur.

That being said...it might just happen to be the case...if some of the stuff posted by the Q Anon folks is true...that the rot is SO deep...it's almost impossible to undo it without completely destroying the trust of the American people in most of the government institutions.

And so they have to go slowly enough, that it doesn't totally destroy the faith of people in government...

but going that slow allows the bad guys to fight back, and make false flags, and rearguard actions, and legislative and red tape delays, and judges ruling from the bench, and backroom deals with foreign governments, and all that...

Which in turn makes it take longer...and so on.

Do you think that trust & faith is not already totally destroyed?

I suppose there is some trust left at the local level, but at the state or national levels?

Personally, over the past 20+ years, I have been horrified and betrayed enough times to the point of no longer feeling shocked. It’s all pervasively putrid on a global scale.

What would anyone base trust & faith on?

I followed Qanon for awhile and for a time I bought the line about slowly educating the normies. Well, so much is out there, now, anyone who isn’t aware is purposely in denial.

We have mass violence and we have one-on-one violence and I see less and less civility. What is left to be protected?

The scenario you describe is accurate. Time to just acknowledge the rot, bring the truth out in the open and let the chips land where they will.

FWIW.

Yep. Marchant has a 93% lifetime ACU rating. So this may not be good news.

" As bad as the GOPe is in the Senate, they are light years better than their RAT replacements would be."

Well, THAT remains a REAL problem...

A conundrum...

Either they’re getting threats from the DS, or they’re just average GOP people who don’t see government as their ultimate and only career goal. I wish Marchant a good and healthy retirement.

Marchand has seen his share drop steadily each election.

Don’t be so sure.

His last two races were against a female CPA whose views were way outside of the voters in the district. Had the Democrats run a more moderate candidate, Marchant May have lost.

He was a backbencher’s backbencher.

The Dems’ takeover of the House in 2018 was due in part to about 45(?) Republican incumbents retiring.

Are we about to see a replay, with all these incumbents saying they’re not running for 2020?
