There have been precursors in virtually all these incidents that no one acted on. Bureaucratic failures, police failures, school official failures, family failures, friends failures to report it. No gun law after the fact is going to stop this.

So if we're going to take action, let's have a national debate with the FACTS. The Dems always want to legislate immediately when emotions are high and nobody reds the bill. The facts are that we already have Red Flags with these people.

One thing that needs to happen is the mass murdering perps' juvenile records need to be unsealed! They were sealed, allegedly, just because they were underage at the time. The shot in the act dead perps should have zero remaining privacy rights and no claim to protect their past record. The perps taken alive but caught in the act should have their privacy rights revoked after their prompt convictions and sentence (why there is a 'massive' police investigation in El Paso when the facts are flagrantly obvious to al; the obvious evidence should get him to the gallows in a week.) The only reason to keep those juvenile records sealed to to protect some one(s) else's privacy. Those who's either actions or policies might have gotten him help (inpatient or out, voluntary or mandatory as needed) and gotten him into whatever mental health databases are used for gun purchase checks. Who should go into such databases, after what due process and what due process is required to get removed from such databases are important and controversial questions requiring prospective, logical and unemotional debate. But no one seems to deny SOME people belong in such databases and should at least be temporarily barred from guns. If they never get input they can't be blocked. If there are factors preventing them from being input that we can't study because of alleged privacy issues, even in the most egregious cases, how can we learn to correct that. Remove the juvenile privacy wall in these worst cases so we can learn to fix the system.
