Fake name. HIs father, who was Mayor before him was born Edwin Finley Taliaferro. I believe they took the last name to honor Patrice Lumumba, Congolese politician.

Remember the Ebola case in Texas in 2014 where the patient was a Liberian citizen named Thomas Eric Duncan and the American nurses etc treating him had names like Shikita, Shamara, Kawabunga etc etc with the 'claim' being they were named to expunge their American name and use 'native African names',
