U.N. flags need to cut meat to curb land use impact on global warming

LONDON/GENEVA - Global meat consumption must fall to curb global warming, reduce growing strains on land and water and improve food security, health and biodiversity, a United Nations report on the effects of climate change concluded.

Although the report stopped short of explicitly advocating going meat free, it called for big changes to farming and eating habits to limit the impact of population growth and changing consumption patterns on stretched land and water resources.

“There are certain kinds of diets that have a lower carbon footprint and put less pressure on land,” Jim Skea, professor at London’s Imperial College, said on Thursday.

But it is not the only solution and cutting emissions from all sectors is essential to quickly curtail global warming.

“The window for making these changes is closing fast. If there is further delay in reducing emissions, we will miss the opportunity to successfully manage the climate change transition in the land sector,” it said.

The report text is prepared by over 100 scientists but has to be approved by governments.

How about we instead we cut the African palm oil and sugarcane production that is being used for fuel and manufacturing that countries other than the U.S. benefit from? Cattle farming requires grassland that has the added benefit of sequestering vast amounts of carbon that the environmentalists are so concerned with.

Global elites to the people of Planet Earth: there is no need to address hunger among you. Those of you who are hungry are saving the planet!

Vegetation grows everywhere it's possible.
Some animal will eat it, it might as well be a cow.
Some animal will eat the animal that ate the plants, it might as well be us.
The carbon will become plants again.
Round and round. We can't stop it. We shouldn't even try to stop it.
The planet will go on with or without us so stop fretting.

They should start, no meat in cafeteria, no meat purchases reimbursed on employee expense accounts.

I cannot believe what a bunch of evil psychopaths these people are. Cattle farming sequesters carbon whereas the land grabs currently happening in the developing world displace indigenous people, replace the growing of food with the production of fuel, steal water from said indigenous people, and greatly increases global warming.

Eating meat is normal for humans. We are omnivores. Predator animals chase, kill and eat prey animals. It is 100% in line with human nature to do the same thing.

Okay - we’ll just have our burgers and BBQ here where there’s no global warming/climate change going on.

Cause growing grain crops has no impact on the environment. Perhaps we should take a page from our hunter-gatherer ancestors and starve in greater numbers.
