If this is the Trump I know he is preparing the field for battle and should not be hung for what he is saying now to put the Left off balance, but instead carefully evaluate what he does in the near future.
Look at his upcoming proposals for legislation. I believe they will be too much in line with current NRA positions than Democrats are willing to accept, and that will leave them on defense as the obstructionists.
We already know our adversaries want this issue far more than a resolution but up to now have had their way bashing Trump and accusing us of being responsible for all illegal gun violence in America. This will turn the responsibility upside down and land on them when they are forced to turn down a conservative proposal that upholds the Constitution.
By then their sick candidates for president should also be sweating blood to see a tide of public sympathy swing to Trump and away from them.
Could all this play-out for the good? Yes! If not, Trump should disassociate from any further efforts rather than compromise our most fundamental Constitutional rights. This will become clearer in the next few day.
Trump wants to stem the Red-Tide as much as we do,and he will not tank his reelection by violating the second amendment. We need to give him time and then look at what he has done before final judgement.
We owe ourselves this much. Can any one reading remember an election that meant this much? What we say and do now and on election day 2020 will have meaning far beyond our lifetimes. Lets trust the President to reveal his plan and carefully evaluate whether we must not vote on election day 2020 and see an in your face socialist President and congress elected
All the Red Flag Laws in the world, would not have saved Jeffrey Epstein.
I do have a tendency to believe that about PDJT, but not necessarily about the people who work for him.
The DOJ seems to have broken free of the executive branch, becoming a power unto itself, thereby becoming part of the “deep state.”
My problem with what he has done is, at some point someone needs to change the narrative. Every time one of these happen the Republicans and Democrats fall all over themselves about how they’re going to prevent the next shooting with new gun legislation. The hysteria eventually subsides but each time they’re picking up a percentage of people who believe them. At some point those percentages are gonna tip the scales. Trump should be offering a argument for people to consider.
Hello, bump stocks...
No, he hasn't.
There are TONS of Never Trumpers here and they make the loudest noise. You can see the same clowns on the border wall threads...
Every time I start to freak out, I have to calm down and remember that God is in control. The fact that PDJT has super-human energy confirms this for me. What will happen will happen.
Here’s the problem with Trump, he only threatens to do things. He threatens to have Mexico build a wall. He threatens to declassify all this deep state craps going on. Threatens to lock Hillary up. Threatens to declare ANTIFA a terrorist group, even after we have proof the Dayton shooter was ANTIFA. We are seeing our country being destroyed systematically by the left, and Trump appears to be a willing participant by stepping out of their way. Now with Epstein dead who could have brought the whole DNC down (and don’t doubt for a second he was not murdered) and allowed to get away with it, and fat ass bagpipe Barr just getting so mad....honestly what’s the point anymore. Our country and justice for all is gone.
I don't believe Trump wants to or will give in to the Dems on what they want re gun control. But for the sake of argument let's say he was willing to give them what they want. That means he puts his name on the top line, so to speak, of the Dem's gun control bill.
He takes all the credit and the way he manages to control his own narrative he would absolutely take ALL of the credit.
Does anybody think for a minute that Schmuckey and Nanzi would allow that to happen? To help him make it happen? He would own that issue from that point on and they would lose all leverage for anything further on it.
Trump is it. He’s our last president before a sea of socialist scum is swept into office. Enjoy every day he’s in office because the alternative is going to really suck.
He did promise to protect our second amendment rights and has done so up to now.
Ahem. Bumpstocks. He also openly encouraged several states to pass red flag laws, several of which did.
More gun control has happened under Trump in 2 years than happened under Obama in 8.
He has already broken his 2A promise and has earned suspicion in lieu of benefit of the doubt. He said he supported a bumpstock ban and red flag laws, all of which happened.
If he says he supports federal funding for state red flag laws and ending private sales / universal background checks, I believe him. Trump is not given to lying, after all.
He can do one of the following. He can support red flag and/or UBC, or he can be re-elected. He will not have both.
I’ve been thinking about why he would say this. I wonder if asylums have something to do with it. Remember the Dems closed all the insane asylums decades ago and called them inhumane.
Now we have these people who should be incarcerated out on the streets, homeless, dangerous and a definite threat to any community.
Does PDJT want to re-open asylums? He keeps saying, “Something needs to be done.” Is this the method to his madness?
Given the polarizations involved, how would one go about accomplishing this? Seems to me he would first talk about “Red Flag Laws.”
The 2AS would go nuts which is predictable. I did too when I first heard it. If this starts people thinking, they will agree that ‘something’ needs to be done. Could that something be to open asylums so the public is safe?
Just thoughts. None of us knows what the plot on this particular item is. Bears watching. I do not believe he is a gun grabber. He never has been.
If Trump were a professional politician, I would hold it against him that he even brings up the idea. Coming from a pro, a kneejerk is a reveal of what they really intend and have probably been lying about. Going back from that stance from a pro is a flip flopper.
But Trump has been building his empire his whole life, not pondering constitutional issues. I knew that going in with him and expected frequent ignorance of these things.
I know he has time to be informed. Any statements in this area, as far as my future vote is concerned, is absolutely forgiven if nothing comes out of this. Otherwise, like Romneycare, it’s an unforgivable in my book. If you think different that’s your business.
Nevertheless I make my opinions known because that’s what we do here.
Elsewhere I’ve done the ole whitehouse.gov message with my opinion and when the recess is over I’ll be writing my reps, even the state ones, because my aim is constitutional carry.
In the meantime I’ll just have to squabble here.
I agree, keep your powder dry.

Until I see otherwise, I trust Donald Trump. I’m not going to have a knee jerk reaction to things he says. His actions speak louder than words and I have not been disappointed to this point.
I learned during the primaries never to second-guess Donald Trump.
I hope my gut feeling is right, in that Trump is going to let the commies air every anti-American idea that they can throw at the wall, and wrap it all into one fecal-laced bill that nobody could seriously consider. Once their true intentions are exposed, they can’t take it back. Sort of like raising your hand to give illegal aliens free health care.
His completely unforced edrror in banning "bump stocks" was a (minor?) act of betrayal.
It marked him as a gun control advocate.
It does nothing to promote safety.
It adavances the false idea that banning guns and gun accessories is an proper response to the actions of violent criminals.
IT WAS ABSOLUTELY UNNECESSARY. ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS NOTHING. KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT. LET SCHUMER AND PELOSI MAKE ASSES OF THEMSELVES.
But he didn't.
Trust? Not really.
current NRA positions
NRA is not entirely to be trusted, either.
