We have to remember Vietnam. After years of on & off ‘negotiations’ with North Vietnam and a final Paris Peace Accords agreement. The ink was barely dry on the documents, as soon as U.S. forces primarily left (except for advisory and aviation assets) The North broke the entire agreement, knowing the U.S. civilian populous and the Democrats in Congress would never allow for any re-engagement.
This is EXACTLY what will happen in Afghanistan.

AFG has been a pain in the ass for centuries. We need to just tell them; shape up or WE WILL nuke your asses entirely out of existence.

we left afghanistan, and al-qaeda germinated, grew, and has killed thousands—including those who perished in 9/11.
we stay in afghanistan without establishing a strongman, and we fight a war of attrition.
we establish a strong man, the internal politics of America and the inevitable (?) collapse of that man feeds into a future terror.
my best thought now is that the THIRD option—a strong man (like the Shah or Sadat or Mubarak) who is friendly to the West is what is needed for stability. He must be merciless to the terrorists. Yet, we also need a true Christian awakening in that part of the world.
The gospel is REALLY what changes lives. And those Muslims in Afghanistan are created in God’s image. They need His redemption of the cross of Jesus just as much as I need it!
Since we both know that’s a FANTASY, a fun one but a fantasy nonetheless, what will likely happen?
