I believe our Virginia cousins, Jefferson and Washington, went up against these guys.
According to 'The Diplomatic Correspondence of the United States of America, Volume 2', they wrote:
(the aggression) was founded on the laws of their Prophet; that it was written in their Koran, that all nationals who should not have acknowledged their authority, were sinners; that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners; and that every Mussulman who was slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise. Of course, this particular guy could have been just a hothead who didn't think very deeply about anything or according to any philosophy; but one has to wonder where the 'consciousness' was invested.
We have plenty of gun owners here who insist upon their right to keep and carry arms and to protect themselves against aggression. I doubt that any of them would shoot a fleeing kid over a 2-buck beer.
