Brexit Secretary Signs Order To Scrap 1972 Brussels Act - Ending All EU Law In The UK
Gov.UK ^ | 08/18/19

Posted on 08/18/2019 3:20:07 PM PDT by Enlightened1

The 1972 Act is the vehicle that sees regulations flow into UK law directly from the EU’s lawmaking bodies in Brussels.

The announcement of the Act’s repeal marks a historic step in returning lawmaking powers from Brussels to the UK. We are taking back control of our laws, as the public voted for in 2016.

The repeal of the European Communities Act 1972 will take effect when Britain formally leaves the EU on October 31.

Speaking after signing the legislation that will crystallise in law the upcoming repeal of the ECA, the Secretary of State for Exiting the EU Steve Barclay said:

This is a clear signal to the people of this country that there is no turning back - we are leaving the EU as promised on October 31, whatever the circumstances - delivering on the instructions given to us in 2016.

The votes of 17.4 million people deciding to leave the EU is the greatest democratic mandate ever given to any UK Government. Politicians cannot choose which public votes they wish to respect. Parliament has already voted to leave on 31 October. The signing of this legislation ensures that the EU Withdrawal Act will repeal the European Communities Act 1972 on exit day.

The ECA saw countless EU regulations flowing directly into UK law for decades, and any government serious about leaving on October 31 should show their commitment to repealing it.

That is what we are doing by setting in motion that repeal. This is a landmark moment in taking back control of our laws from Brussels.

Good points, da_shrimp . From the link you sent
Britain sold our fish quotas for a quick buck

But it turns out that foreign firms already own a big slice of British fishing rights and will continue to do so permanently. Why? Because British companies sold their quotas. Spanish firms own 88 per cent of Welsh fishing rights and most of the quota from the Bristol Channel to the Scottish border.

...The fishing industry has largely gone the way of so much of British business, manufacturing and utilities that have been sold off to Chinese, American and other foreign investors with the approval of successive governments.

“Boris the Clown”

“Boris the Clown” is Prime Minister of the U.K., what are you? In comparison, nothing, no offense. You and Cronos obviously are EU fans, Remainers, pretending that you aren’t, and therefore Globalists by default. All of Cronos and your posts give you away.

You’d rather that the U.K. remain under the yoke of the EU, rather than break free. I’ll bet you consider Nigel Farage a clown too, in other words any BREXIT backer must be either stupid, a clown, or a misled foolish citizen, rather than a freedom fighter trying to save what little remains of their former U.K. after being watered down by ridiculous regulations and the bureaucratic mindset of Brussels.

Who cares now what the origins of how the U.K. joined the EU was, back when no one had any idea what a many headed monster hydra it was to become. Now the citizens of the U.K. know better, and they want out while the getting is good.

I see right through the two of you, and hopefully anyone else reading this thread does too. The U.K. has this one shot at breaking the shackles that now bind them to eventual total socialism and loss of sovereignty over their own fate. Cronos tries his hardest to minimize the infiltration and insidious inroads that the Muzzies pushing their Sharia law have already foisted on an ever increasingly PC country. If the U.K. stays within the EU, they are doomed to eventual dhimmi status within their own country.

You and Cronos are not that subtle as to your actual opinions while you try to couch them in more generic terms. I doubt if other Freeper readers haven’t picked up on this ruse, as they are pretty smart cookies. Show your true hands, rather than hiding behind a false flag of sly verbiage.

Indeed. Yet again, this is something that the average Brexiteer blames on the EU, rather than looking closer to home. Most things Brexiteers blame the EU for are in fact the policies of our own government.

As for me, I'm pretty neutral on the EU - it has its good and bad points, as does any human endeavour.

The lies and distortions of the Leave side have been pretty irritating, but what's pissed me off the most is my wife getting told to "f**k off back home, you Polish bitch", when she's been here for 24 years and been a British citizen since 2000. The knuckle draggers hear her accent and that's enough to trigger the poor dears.

oh no, I WANT the UK to have a hard, no-deal Brexit. Nothing would be better for me.

btw, the EU is anti-globalist - it rejects all globalist efforts to open up its market and creates a closed internal market. This is the antithesis to globalism, which is why the communist party of the UK opposes the EU

Who cares now what the origins of how the U.K. joined the EU wa -- the Leavers do - they cried "we didn't know" - but that's a lie, the facts were clearly out there.

If they want to leave now, fine, but lying that the "ever closer union" wasn't known right from 1957 (before the UK joined) is wrong.

It's not a ruse, love: I do not care a whit what you or anyone else on here thinks of what I think about the EU.

If the U.K. stays within the EU, they are doomed to eventual dhimmi status within their own country.

Erm... leaving the EU will not change Muslim immigration. Ours come from Pakistan and India, not the EU.

total socialism

You DO realise that Socialists hate the EU, don't you? They see it as a capitalist club and want to see the end of it. Corbyn, for example, has always wanted out.

Amazing how much stuff like that defies logic. If you’re going to join a ‘union’ where your population is 20% of the union (if that) and your GDP is less than 20%, guess what, you’re not going to be running the show. In fact, you’re not going to have much say.

The situation in all of the EU is frightening - there’s polling in Germany showing something like 75% of Germans have had enough ‘refugees’ for the time being and enough immigration for the time being - yet they can’t complain about it, since they risk jail. I suspect it’s the same in the rest of the EU. But the EU controls the borders, not the countries themselves anymore...so they simply DO NOT LISTEN.

If certain people wanted to destroy Western Europe, its people, and its history, without another war, I would hard pressed to come up with a more effective option than simply replacing the people.

As to why they want to destroy Europe - that’s easy, the wars of the 20th century...both started in Europe, so no Europe no more wars (LOL). They’re also not too hot on the way Europeans ran rough-shod over the then ‘peaceful’ natives of the world, like the Aztecs, Apaches, Arabs, and African tribes (LOL).

The thing is that the UK was in many ways “running the show”

1. it got a sizable rebate - no other country got that. The UK paid less into the EU budget than France or Italy (two countries with then a lower GDP) and a lower per capita than many other countries

2. It got an opt-out from the Schengen

3. it got an indefinite opt-out from the euro

4. it got a full veto on any regulation it didn’t like

5. it had a commissioner in Brussels and 73 MEPs to formulate the regulations or prevent them being enforced in any way

Technically - no one country “runs the show” - not even Germany. Germany’s population was smaller than the UK’s in 1975 (remember that this was just West germany) and it’s economy was about the same as the UK’s

With regards to the German problem - yes, that’s their problem. They are trying to foist them on other people, but you know - each time “refugees” are sent to other countries they always run to gErmany or Sweden — even from France.

Why? Because Germany offers the best welfare along with Sweden. Denmark doesn’t and neither does Central europe.

What you said “I suspect it’s the same in the rest of the EU” - that’s wrong. What happens in Germany isn’t true even in the Netherlands. Denmark puts mandatory integration classes, for instance.

And “the EU controls the border” - that’s false. Hungary put up a border wall. The border between Poland and Belarus/Ukraine is maintained by Poland, not the EU.

The internal borders between SCHENGEN countries is not policed, but the external borders are policed by the individual countries themselves - for instance Italy polices it’s sea borders.

Wherever did you get the idea that the EU polices the borders between eu and non-eu countries??

Yea, good points on the history, and no one could fully predict the future back then (I also remember that the Cold War was never supposed to end). So anyway what’s interesting is that when the EU did move to put the UK in its place, the politicians did not defend the UK, particularly Blair...and so here we are.

Perhaps the stamps in my passport that say EU, rather than the country I entered?

Western Europe lost it’s culture at the same time the North-East of the USA lost is culture - the 60s. That’s when church attendance plummeted while the economies prospered.

the big flaw - the biggest flaw for the EU is that it does not acknowledge that Europe is europe because of Christianity.

The entry stamps have the country of entry on them - HU for hungary for instance.

And the border guards are the national border guards. I don’t think I’ve seen non-locals except at Frankfurt and Munich - as those are hubs for Lufthansa
