Western civilization junked Christianity since the French revolution and replaced it with nationalism to some extent and a modernistic religion where “science” is God — to an engineer like me that is illogical, science does not compete with religion but complements it - science is repeated experimental observations; religion is explaining the unmeasurable

IMO Western Civilization abandoned Christianity and replaced it with the religion of humanism. The baby boomers and their songs such as "It's your thing, do what you want to do" perfectly underscores our self centeredness. Each human becomes his/her own god.

"How Should We Then Live" by Francis Schaeffer is an excellent work on this phenomenon.
