He didn’t act huffy at all. They could have told him in person that there would be no deal, but they did so publicly and sarcastically. So, he complimented their country and people and politely thanked the PM for not wasting either of their time and canceled the trip. What’s the problem here?

Of course they were sarcastic, it was a completely idiotic idea, and besides, have you read his twitter feed? Trump thrives on sarcasm (as long as he's not on the receiving end of it).

If Denmark had offered to buy Alaska, do you honestly think Trump wouldn't have had a sarcastic response? The man spends a lot of time every day on twitter, pushing out all kinds of sarcastic responses to anybody he doesn't like.

And yes, it is huffy to hop on twitter and say he's not coming, because he's ditching a diplomatic trip over a scenario that was never going to happen.

It's like you planning a trip to visit a friend, and then tossing in a question about whether the friend will also give you a million bucks, and the friend asking if you're out of your mind, and you canceling the trip as a result.

The only people who think it's an idiotic idea are leftists and never Trump stooges who reflexively oppose all of his ideas. Ike and Truman both sought to acquire it, so I guess they were dummies too? It makes all kinds of strategic sense for us to have it, but it's idiotic because Trump hating bedwetters think it's crazy. Ok.

That is an asinine comparison. Alaska is a state. That'd be like trying to buy a chunk of Denmark proper. A better comparison would be Puerto Rico, which most of us here would be happy to unload.

Who says it's never going to happen in the future? People who know nothing about anything, that's who. Not all successful negotiations happen overnight. Who cares about blowing off Denmark one time? I mean really. What's going to happen over it? Nothing, except some embarrassment that they were blown off by the United States.

It's not at all like that. This is geopolitics, not a pen pal meetup. Greenland costs their tiny county a fortune, so it would be mutually beneficial deal. The only holdup from their perspective is pride, which is idiotic and perhaps something they'll eventually get over.
