Yes there is a lot of never Trumpers out there talking about how tariffs are taxes on Americans, yada yada.
Maybe some are right that it comes at an economic cost - in the short term - but there is a long term problem to fix. Not to mention I see China as America’s number one geopolitical foe.
CEO Craig Menear said the tariffs on Chinese goods are projected to have a cost impact on U.S. sales of about 2%, or $2 billion. With suppliers moving at least some of their manufacturing outside of China, that reduces that impact to roughly one percentage point, executives said.
Now, I don't know how well HD's experience compares to others, but, HD buys a lot of products across a fairly wide spectrum, so I suspect their costs are typical. If so...
ONE PERCENT??!! That's a pretty darn acceptable cost (or "tax", if one insists), to begin fixing a major long term problem, and slow down, as you point out, possibly our #1 geopolitical foe. Moreover, the tariff money gets kicked back into our economy -- much of it not as effectively as if it had remained directly in consumers' pockets, but, it's not like it just disappears into a black hole.
*I think it is arguable that radical / fundamentalist / traditional Islam is our #1 foe, but, they are disorganized and fairly easily turned on each other.
