Chapter and verse on the Pell Lynching (Cardinal Pell case - Australia)
Quadrant Magazine (Australia) ^ | 22nd August 2019

Much has been written since 9.30am on Wednesday, when two members of a three-judge panel decided the uncorroborated and highly improbable account of cathedral choir boys being molested in an open, unlocked room after Sunday Mass by Cardinal George Pell was sufficiently convincing to see him returned to prison. Where close friends fear he will leave in a coffin, for at 78 such is the parlous state of his health.

Of all the tens of thousands of words, however, none paint such a damning picture of the forces arrayed against an innocent man as the magisterial overview pulled together by the poster Currency Lad (CL) at the Catallaxy Files blog.

This article is currently appearing on the front page of Quadrant Magazine, and it doesn't seem to have a separate URL - but it's main point is to direct people to the detailed blog post C.L. : No country for old Catholics at the Catallaxy Files - in my view, essential reading for anybody trying to understand why many in Australia regard what has happened in Australia to Cardinal George Pell as little more than a witch hunt. It's a little over the top at times, in my view, but correct in its essentials.

Understand - my personal position is not Cardinal Pell is innocent - I am not in a position to judge that. But I do not believe he received a fair trial - two trial conducted in secret (the second after the first ended in a hung jury) where we are still not allowed to see the evidence of the alleged victim, the only witness to the supposed crime, where no evidence exists except that testimony. And there's so much more going on as well.

I’m with you on this. I am unsurprised at the 2-1 decision. I think they want it to go all the way to the high court. It worries me. The possibility that this case could lower the burden of proof for abuse cases is right up there and I believe high on the agenda of the left.

The behavior of abruptly forcing oral sex from an adolescent boy is quite peculiar.

It is not something that would happen without any previous history.

Where are Cardinal Pell’s numerous previous lovers, who would validate this unusual predilection?

Does no one question the assertions?

From what I read, the ABC implied a history, but completely failed to come up with any other credible witnesses.

Am I wrong about that?

I should have added: two adolescent boys, at once, in a semi-public place?

That is extreme behavior that should have a lifetime of previous behaviors.

Those precedents have not been found, from what I am reading.
