Pancreatic cancer is one of the ugliest cancers there is. The “cure” rate is close to zero.

Do they, the medical establishment, consider a 5 year survival rate to be a cure?

Her first diagnosis was in 2009. She's 86. I would say she effectively "beat" it.

Note the report doesn’t say her pancreas are free of cancer, just the cancer has not spread to the rest of her body. So, the question is how much radiation can she take before the cancer takes over. At her age operating is likely out of the question. Remember she had cancer in the pancreas before this latest bout.

True if it gets to the liver. For most people symptoms do not appear until that has occurred. She could hang on for a while if they can confine it to the pancreas.

One-year survival rate is 20%.
Five-year survival rate is 7%.
RBG will get the best possible treatment, but that is not terribly relevant in the case of pancreatic cancer.

Memorial Sloan Kettering is one of the best facilities for cancer treatment, so that boosts her chances a bit.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the ugliest cancers there is. The cure rate is close to zero. True. My brother-in-law lasted 6 months -- young, vivacious guy -- passed at 52 years of age. It is indeed an ugly cancer!

my wife is a nurse, and we’ve had several neighbors that have had pancreatic cancer. One is a good friend’s dad, she had to get up often in the night to give him a shot of morphine for the few weeks he had left. 2-3 months is a typical life span, and I have never seen a survival, they’re all underground.

Treatments are getting better. A neighbor of ours had it and she has been OK for 8 years..
