“Bicycles Accidents Kill More Children Than Guns, But You Dont See Calls to Ban Bikes”
This headline is written and/or punctuated poorly.
Bicycles Accidents (as is, this is a double plural (if there is such a thing).
It should be
1. Bicycle (singular) Accidents (plural) unless they are talking about multiple accidents involving multiple bicycles.
2. Bicycles/Accidents or Bicycles and Accidents or Accidents Involving Bicycles.
Of course, it could also be misread as Bicycle Accidents Kill More Children Than They Kill Guns.
It happens.
I have heard of other incidents also. The wife knows of someone who killed 4 riders when they looked down to adjust the radio (or something like that). A peloton or group on a busy road can be a dangerous place to be.
That's not the comparison the author is making. He is pointing out that we hear lots of calls for trigger locks and other limitations on gun ownership to protect children for accidental shootings, but none of the same people call for protective limitations on children's use of bicycles. For example, have you ever seen anyone propose that parents need to take a bicycle safety training course before they can buy a bike for their kid?
As awful as it is that some crazy anti-immigrant eco-terrorist killed 22 people in a Walmart, that isn't a reason to take away the fundamental constitutional rights of more than 300 million people. Notice how the same people ready to restrict the fundamental right to keep and bear arms reject even modest limitations on immigration for non-citizens from groups whose members have killed thousands of US citizens and soldiers, destroyed the World Trade Center, attacked the Pentagon, and launched an endless campaign of terror against our nation.
Twenty two people lost their lives in a Walmart, but 49 people were killed in the Pulse nightclub, 16 people were killed in San Bernadino, 6 people in Chattanooga, 14 people at Fort Hood Texas, 2,977 people were killed on Sept. 11 2001, and the official position of the government and political elites in our country was and is that no restrictions on the 1st amendment rights should occur. The right to religious freedom is considered more important than the loss of life, expense and inconvenience of TSA screening at every airport, and the loss of lives and sacrifices of many thousands of our military.
So why should we tolerate an attack on the 2nd Amendment when we accept much more suffering and violence to protect one of the rights listed in the 1st Amendment?
To anyone who wants to attack the 2nd Amendment I suggest that we try out some limitations on the 1st Amendment first, and see if they can solve the supposed problems we are facing.
Maybe some "common sense" laws applied to religions, movies, video games, social media platforms, and so on can reduce violence.
If you ever see some ‘adults’ riding bikes in Tampa (in the poor section), you’ll see that we need bicycle licenses. As a bicyclist, I would ask for it. Of course, drivers aren’t exactly innocent either..
Agreed. One serious problem, as I see it, is that many people today get the news from TV alone.
Recently, a friend told me that she has nothing against people owning a rifle or handgun for protection “in their homes”, but nothing more. She’s never been online and does not read any newspapers. She also has no idea what the Second Amendment is about. She’s not unusual.
Yes. It is frightening how effective TV has been at indoctrinating people.
I hereby call for a ban on adults riding bikes. The adults are larger than the children. The adults riding bikes could harm children riding bikes. Adults peddling is a travesty when children are there peddling too. Save the children bike riders and ban the adult bike riders. Do it for the children ! !
True that. It's pretty near impossible for the people to defend their freedom from an oppressive government armed only with a Schwinn.
Most drugs used for recreational purposes have been illegal for many years and yet deaths caused by illegal drugs remain high. The only people that will benefit from making guns illegal will gun dealers. Restricting availability of guns will drive prices of guns high enough to entice shady individuals into illegally selling guns. The War on Drugs is the longest war this country has ever been involved in and there is no end in sight. A war on guns will be even more destructive because it involves the most basic right in the animal kingdom - the right of self defense.
Good Point!
Once they determine that counterrevolutionaries are traveling to clandestine meetings on bicycles, they will be banned, too. It’s just further down the priority list. :)

Yes, there are wrecks ... but not mass murders using bicycles.

It’s a stupid analogy because the most common cause of death in these bicycle accidents is a head injury exacerbated by failing to wear a helmet. Most states have a helmet law protecting minors or juveniles but most are unenforced.
It’s not the bicycle that killed them, it was their parents failing to appreciate the dangers of riding bare-headed and also failing to see to it that the law was obeyed, so the parents live on in denial to mitigate the guilt.
True. What I meant was that bicycling, like driving, is not a good analogy in a gun rights argument because both are subject to government regulations on their use, and head injuries to youth have decreased since helmet laws have gone into effect.
abortion kills more children than guns
