Your post is exactly correct, but there was a "C type" drum that held 100 rounds. Try carrying that around with you. Its not light with 100 rounds of .45 ACP loaded plus the weight of the Thompson, which was never a light weight gun at 11 pounds without magazine. Its one advantage was that it helped control the guns tendency to climb while shooting due to recoil if firing full auto. Bursts were better controlled.
