I don’t think the IRA will bomb straight away - they’ll push for a reunification vote and they’ll get it - it’s like over 65% of northern ireland want reunification with the republic of ireland in the event of a hard brexit
But even then, there's a lot of overlap. it's not a clean break anywhere
It would be a shame if the crash didn’t happen on 31.October.2019 — all of the EU is waiting and hoping and praying that the UK doesn’t come up with a last minute beg to remain; they really can’t wait for the UK to make up it’s mind and leave
Nonsense, as usual. I have talked to friends in Europe and none of them are happy about UK leaving.
No doubt Germany fears UK leaving will trigger a broader discussion of the future of the EU. Now that the former Soviet Block EU countries are back on their feet it is a good time negotiate a more decentralized EU that is not dominated by German economic interests.
heh heh - I thought you would :)
MEWGA - Ay hain’t harf knacker’d guv!
See how the member state is left at a total disadvantage?
- Any Member State may decide to withdraw from the Union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.
- A Member State which decides to withdraw shall notify the European Council of its intention.
In the light of the guidelines provided by the European Council, the Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with that State, setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union. That agreement shall be negotiated in accordance with Article 218(3) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. It shall be concluded on behalf of the Union by the Council, acting by a qualified majority, after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament.
- The Treaties shall cease to apply to the State in question from the date of entry into force of the withdrawal agreement or, failing that, two years after the notification referred to in paragraph 2, unless the European Council, in agreement with the Member State concerned, unanimously decides to extend this period.
- For the purposes of paragraphs 2 and 3, the member of the European Council or of the Council representing the withdrawing Member State shall not participate in the discussions of the European Council or Council or in decisions concerning it.
A qualified majority shall be defined in accordance with Article 238(3)(b) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
- If a State which has withdrawn from the Union asks to rejoin, its request shall be subject to the procedure referred to in Article 49.
I think efforts in Scotland for separation and efforts in Northern Ireland to do likewise existed long before Brexit and will continue regardless. Both have been a drain on the financial strength of England/Wales or downsized “UK” as you call it.
I am reading the new Robert Tombs overall history or England and his broad picture of Scotland’s avarice and opportunism is an interesting viewpoint
Still at posting EUSSR propaganda, I see.
The Republic of Ireland has not existed since 1972.
Irrelevant, since it was drafted by pro-EU left-wing Brits.
The Attitude is "we are sad to see you go, but for heavens sake, make up your mind and either stay fully engaged or leave. Stop being a drama queen"
The thought process is that even if the UK decides now to stay, it will be at best half-hearted and will cause chaos down the line. Far better for a break
Boris knows that, and he knows that there will be a crash, so he's busy blaming everyone else before October 31
Posting propaganda by UCD’s Karl Whelan too.
it’s very relevant that it was written by Brits. And these weren’t pro-EU left-wing Brits any more than you are.
MAGA: Make Avalon Great Again.
What is the EU gonna do if the UK refuses to cooperate?
That’s the great thing about going first. There’s no precedent to get in your way.
The fact is that Northern Ireland voted by nearly 2/3rd to remain in the EU and that most seem to now be happy with joining the Republic in the event of a hard Brexit. But, as I said, most doesn't mean it is a clean separation
So you have a soft spot for parliamentary sovereignty. But Boris is politically smarter for being “legally wrong,” which is what matters. Sovereignty is only as strong as its subjects’ allegiance.
O'reilly?
Are they calling mentally unfit yet? A racist?
The State may become a member of the European Coal and Steel Community (established by Treaty signed at Paris on the 18th day of April, 1951), the European Economic Community (established by Treaty signed at Rome on the 25th day of March, 1957) and the European Atomic Energy Community (established by Treaty signed at Rome on the 25th day of March, 1957). No provision of this Constitution invalidates laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the State necessitated by the obligations of membership of the Communitiesor prevents laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the Communities, or institutions thereof, from having the force of law in the State.Text of Irelands Third Amendment. Foreign body having legislative power over Ireland = renunciation of sovereignty. Ergo, the Republic of Ireland has not existed since 1972.
