Gifted children do need more challenging work in an environment where they are allowed to succeed. That environment could be in regular classrooms if rules of conduct were enforced.

Smart children need to be with other smart children. Dumb children need to be with other dumb children. Our problem is that universal tracking is politically unappealing. That’s why we have “gifted” programs. It’s basically tracking for the smartest kids. Meanwhile, the rest of the merely above average and average kids are stuck with the unruly morons. Idiocracy isn’t a science fiction movie about the future. It’s reality in the current public school system outside of the “gifted” programs.
