Why Everything They Say About The Amazon, Including That It's The 'Lungs Of The World,' Is Wrong
Forbes ^ | August 26, 2019 | Michael Shellenberger

Singers and actors including Madonna and Jaden Smith shared photos on social media that were seen by tens of millions of people... And yet the photos weren’t actually of the fires and many weren’t even of the Amazon. The photo Ronaldo shared was taken in southern Brazil, far from the Amazon, in 2013. The photo that DiCaprio and Macron shared is over 20 years old. The photo Madonna and Smith shared is over 30. Some celebrities shared photos from Montana, India, and Sweden.

The Amazon produces a lot of oxygen but it uses the same amount of oxygen through respiration so it’s a wash...

While the number of fires in 2019 is indeed 80% higher than in 2018, it’s just 7% higher than the average over the last 10 years ago

The Amazon produces a lot of oxygen, but so do soy farms and [cattle] pastures...

Deforestation declined a whopping 70% from 2004 to 2012.

Latest that I heard is that farmers were setting fires to clear the land. Now where have I heard that before?

Oxygen is a component of carbon dioxide that is released when plants convert CO2 into biological molecules. Thus, schemes to remove CO2 from the atmosphere are also schemes to remove oxygen.

Conversion of CO2 to biomolecules and oxygen happens all over the world, wherever plants are found.

Add to this...the fires aren’t limited to the Amazon, or to Brazil. Same thing going on in Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Bolivia, and Paraguay. They all do it yearly....to beat back the jungle growth.

For the Europeans to get all hyped-up over this....it’s NOT their property or country. France and Germany cleared back all of their forested land three to five-hundred years ago. And they often did the same thing.

Brazil elected a decent leader....the socialists decide to fabricate stuff to destroy him.

Sound familiar?

I was sitting in a doctor’s waiting room this morning and a woman also waiting was on her phone talking to someone that was in a building with the roof on fire.

Just to explain how this is 100% political, I have read socialists blame Trump for the forest fires.

Yes, Trump.

Why?

Because Trump is fighting a trade war with China.
China put tariffs on US soy beans.
Brazil farmers can sell to China, so they want to clear more land for soy beans by burning.

Therefore, all this is Trump’s fault.

I’ve told my cardiologist that I no longer need him. I’m going to get my physicals via opinionated tweets from Jaden Smith, Leonardo DeCrapio and Madonna, since they are also experts in not only the environment, but politics, racism, Foreign Policy, Internatioanal Geopolitics, and Commerce...all without having degrees in any of them. Only thing I can’t understand is why they have a record for making bad music, & bad movies in the fields they are supposed to be knowledgeable in?

I seem to recall seeing a story a while back stating that there is more forest covered land in America now than there was at the beginning of the 1900's

These fires are also started by lightning strikes. All part of the natural cycle.

Not to mention that the great boreal forests that circle the northern reaches of the globe make the rain forest look like a backyard garden by comparison.

The Mayans drove themselves to extinction through human sacrifice fueled by a cultural hysteria over something which wasn’t happening.

The link has a nice chart showing the fire counts with lines for each year. By count at least, this year is about typical.

200 years ago America’s energy source was charcoal. There was hardly a tree between the Mississippi and the East Coast. In the interval every tree that might be missing in the Amazon has been more than replaced in just that area. I have a couple dozen in my own yard as does all the neighborhood. This whole line of crap is pure propaganda.
